I'll be honest, I didn't think they'd actually implement it given how tying the medical card to our license has been such a fiasco, lol.

The Facts: For commercial vehicles subject to the requirements of 49 CFR part 396, there will be no inspection certificate issued, and the registration receipt or cab card does not represent that a valid inspection has been performed on the vehicle within the previous 12 months. When a commercial vehicle passes its annual inspection, a receipt called a Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR) will be provided that identifies the vehicle and includes a statement, signed by the Inspector, that the inspection conformed to the requirements of 49 CFR part 396. This VIR, or a copy thereof, must be presented during a roadside inspection or traffic stop to show compliance with state and federal law. There is no grace period for commercial vehicle inspection or registrations. House Bill 2305 does not provide relief from the requirements of part 396 or State law.
How It Works: Do the Two Step
Follow the steps for Two Steps, One Sticker:
- Step 1: From March 1, 2015, through February 29, 2016, you may renew your registration if your vehicle has a current, passing inspection. However, if your inspection and registration stickers both expire in the same month your vehicle will need to pass inspection prior to registration renewal.
- Step 2: Renew your annual registration. At the time of registration, your inspection status will be verified electronically.
PackRatTDI Thanks this. -
That's what sucks for my car is both of mine expire in December. No more renewing the registration and letting the inspection "ride" a month or two.[emoji38]

LS lets us slide on our 120 day inspection with a clean level one.

(f) Vehicles passing roadside or periodic inspections performed under the auspices of any State government or equivalent jurisdiction or the FMCSA, meeting the minimum standards contained in appendix G of this subchapter, will be considered to have met the requirements of an annual inspection for a period of 12 months commencing from the last day of the month in which the inspection was performed. If a vehicle is subject to a mandatory State inspection program, as provided in § 396.23(b)(1), a roadside inspection may only be considered equivalent if it complies with the requirements of that program.
As a state officer with a State police department, I accept any previous level ! inspection report where decals were issued or earned to satisfy the Periodic Inspection requirements. You must have a copy of the inspection / not just a decal on the window. And you must present it at the time of the inspection. I've seen drivers marked for not having an annual inspection and then many months later arguing that they had passed a level ! inspection and didn't need one. Unfortunately, the officer / inspector had no way to know this and it wasn't claimed at the time of the inspection. So keep a copy of your level one inspection and present it at the time of inspection as proof that you have satisfied the Periodic Inspection requirements.truckinfast and truckon Thank this. -
