Was told 8 to 9 months for a new Great Dane van.

That's a long time. Demand must be outpacing supply. Surely the trailer manufacturers can't use the "chip shortage" excuse here.

Nope no chip shortage, rates went up and everyone jumped on the wagon to add capacity. Used trailer are a hot commodity.
Jim Hawk in Council bluffs wants to buy my vans. 2 are paid for and 8 years old they offered 18k a piece. My current trailer I pull they offered 20 k. It’s 6 years old. Now granted I keep my equipment in like new condition
    But it’s nuts.

It's crazy indeed. It's a great time to have old(er) equipment that can still get the job done and just sit back and enjoy the good rates/lanes.

Had a guy come up to me at a PFJ the other day and asked me how many hours were on my reefer. Told him around 1,700 and he offered me $65,000 for my 2 year old Utility trailer with TK reefer. I paid around $70k for it new in late 2018. Thanked him for the offer, but told him I need it to stay in business. Things are crazy out there.

That didn't age too well. Keep telling yourself that all the shortages are because of COVID and not the highly dysfunctional otd system that the US insists on using.

On-time Delivery. Most companies keep just enough stock on hand to fulfill a set number of orders. It heavily relies on every cog in the wheel to run smoothly. When a cog stops running smoothly (i.e: micro-processer manufacturers), then everything down the line stops as well...hence why you can't find a new car right now to save your life. There's a bunch of YouTube videos explaining it in more depth if you're interested.

I think if we reach a sufficient number of trucks out of service we are going to see bread lines.
