I don't know if I should be angry about this or sad....

I had my first collision that involved someone else today....

I was doing 20-22 in a 25 on a main street, passing through an intersection (I had the green light, therefore the right of way), when a woman decided to turn left right in front of me!

When police arrived (<5minutes), I had already spoken to the other driver, amd she appeared to be pregnant, so they took her for medical attention. That is the part I felt bad about......

As the police were gathering info, it was discovered that she did not even have a valid driver's license! This, combined with the fact that she cut me off when she turned into my path leaving me no reaction time makes me angry. Apparently the car was insured, but I don't know if she was named on the policy, or just had the permission of the owner to drive(WTF?)....

As the scene was being investigated, 4-6 different officers started agreeing that I was not at fault, and it was not preventable by any action of my own other than pass through that intersection 2 minutes later and I was not cited. I was able to roll once I was able to determine it was safe enough to get to the closest shop about an hour away.

This is proof that I need to get some kind of dash cam system in place...

They must not work many wrecks. I don't doubt you but if half of what you told me is correct then the child is who should be sorry.

I always wonder why people don't get one until it's too late.

This is where you were wrong, the green light does not give you the right of way. A green light gives you the "ok" that it is your turn to safely proceed through the intersection. A green traffic light gives no one the right of way. If that were the case, red light running would not happen.

You as the professional need to be more cautious when entering an intersection and assume someone is going to blow it.

Now the what if's. What if someone killed another in the same situation. Yeah, you had the green but you are going to have something you don't want for the rest of your life.

Carry on safely driver. And be more cautious to your surroundings. You don't exactly have the best record on this forum.

The number of unlicensed and/or uninsured drivers on the road sickens me. I wish they were subjected to random inspections like we are, it would eliminate so many hazardous drivers. cases like this, when they have children in the car, are especially aggravating. Oh well, I'm glad everyone is ok, and glad you didn't get cited. Could have been much worse.

The left turn was a `protected` turn, meaning that there was a signal controlling traffic flow and since my light was green, hers had to be RED. The biggest thing is that ALL the officers agreed I was not at fault and it was not preventable by any action of my own, even if she had a license (which just makes matters worse if that's possible).

If you work for swift, it was preventable, because to them, every accident is preventable. Oh and BTW always remember it's the truck driver fault. Until u can prove other wise

Keep in mind, the police don't decide if it's a preventable on you or not. Your company does. I've seen MANY companies charge a driver with a preventable when they weren't cited. Not saying that's the case here, just warning you that when this goes before your companies safety director they could still say you could have prevented the accident.

Kind of messed up, but that's how it works
