TL/DR How long does it take for the FMSCA to usually make changes? FMCSA Medical Board Supports Vision Policy Changes Any advice to get me on the road as a monocular driver? Situation: Bit of a predicament. I went to driving school(6 weeks) and received my professional truck driver certificate 200+ hours behind the wheel at my local com college. I also passed my driving test. I went to get my DOT physical and failed the vision test due to a lazy eye but I have full periferal. Literally never stopped me from doing anything. 20/20 in my other eye. I have been running in circles it would appear the FMSCA is dropping the entire vision waiver program which was good news for me, but they said I need to drive locally to get the current waiver. The state says I need a DOT physical to drive intrastate. So here I sit at home not working while there are 200 $100,000 jobs near me. Did I just waste $3200 and months of income? All advice welcome
I don't see what state you are in. I live in Washington state and I would try a different DOT doctor. My primary cannot do a DOT physical. It costs me 80 bucks for a physical. If I had a primary physician or eye doctor who would vouch for me I would try to get their help. If you can see well enough to drive find a way. Good luck.
That’s a tough one. Went through that process 2 years ago in a hurry, and was not fun. Tell me how the new process goes so my half-blind ### can decide to keep driving or start practicing my “would you like fries with that”
I spit my drink. Thanks for the laugh unfortunately I may have to go this route. In contact with the governor and senate elect right now. I'll post anything I find out to you hooligans.
