Just like the title says.... After getting the new style Qualcomm put in my 2000 Volvo I noticed the backlight in the instrument cluster went out... Of course I was 300 miles away at this point, which was half my fault, I should checked the little stuff like that first before leaving... The diagnostics screen, the one the keeps track of instant Mpg's and such is still lit up just fine,,,, it's just the other side that lights up the speed, tach, air pressure, fuel tank and etc that's not lighting up....

AND--------- to throw in a curveball, the marker lights are not coming on now------------

I bought a new chrome rear center panel as part of my restoration and I hooked all the lights back up and only my turn signals/brakes/ and 4 ways lit up.... No marker lights!!!! The reverse lights were not not working either....

Is it just me or is it a crazy coincidence that this all happens half a day after installing the new Qualcomm? The truck has not had a Qualcomm in it for over half a year...

So I've took off the kick panels and have tried to trace the steps back to go over his work and if I can find some type of error. I guess I will be replacing fuses soon. I tried unplugging and plugging a few things to reset the circuit, no luck there yet. I've done MUCH research on here and found these suggestions; replace marker interrupter switch, ignition switch, and it the dimmer switch..

Maybe I just need to disconnect my batteries and reset the system. I also read that Volvo uses the white wire for a ground so maybe i need to rewire my back lights and switch the black and the white wires? Idk..,,

Any help, advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance & safe trails

Check the fuses, the Yahoo who installed the Qcomm could've blew some fuses trying to find a power source.

You could try disconnecting the I/O cable on the QC blackbox and see if things start working. Just as a test, I wouldn't drive it around like that unless you want to make a log mess.

Check your trailer relays that are in the black box on the engine compartment. I have had similar problems with lights going out and it was the $30 relay.

Thank you all who answered,, it ended up being a little 20amp atm fuse. The second row all the way to the left. At least now I know which one is responsible for all the marker lights and dash lights. Only thing is now, my new reverse lights are 3 prong and the wiring from my truck is 2 wires,, white and red,, got to find some way to make it work

    Thanks and safe trails!

replace that 20 amp fuse with a 20 amp breaker fuse so it will reset after being shorted. That fuse is very easy to pop. On the reverse light check the switch on the trans they also go bad alot

Where is this switch on the trans and how would I go about checking it? Voltmeter?

I would just clarify a couple things to hopefully help you. You can use either a test light or a volt meter to check for power (you will need the key on). I would clip the test light or meter to ground somewhere, should be lots of places to get ground under there and then find power on one (only one) of the two wires that you unplugged. If you don't find power, verify first that your ground is good. I've experienced more times than not that you think there's no power, you play around with ground and voila it lites up. Once you determine that you have power, you have to do a continuity test on the switch in the trans itself. As Terry said, with it in reverse, which closes the switch. Switch your meter to either continuity or and ohms setting, touch your leads to each other to make sure that all works, (should get a beep or a full needle deflection, or 0.00 ohms if its digital). You should then get this same reaction across the contacts on the switch if it's good. Might need a helper to put it in and out of gear a couple times while you watch your meter. Electrical diagnosis if done very carefully can be a huge help to pinpoint a problem, but is loaded with potential for inaccurate results if care is not taken with the procedure. Slow, careful, and think, "does what I'm doing/seeing make sense"? Good luck to you.
