I think airlines have trained consumers to expect always lower prices. $18 Memphis to Chicago or $39 NY to LA. Consumers start to believe any price more than that is a ripoff. They really do think the actual cost of those trips are those sale prices. The schools don't teach economics, they teach Marxist Hate-Thought. "The only reason I can't have 10 times more for 1/2 the old price is some criminal is taking my money."

Friend of mine flew Huey gunships in the Navy; did two combat tours in Vietnam. Found a job when he got out flying a helicopter for Schenley Industries which is a liquor company.
The military transport pilots could write their own ticket when they got out in those days. That was the dream. Those pilots were good and could land those transports on a aircraft carrier: a tailhook would drop down and snag a steel cable on the flight deck and that huge aircraft came to a screeching halt. Later, party time in Philippines!!
