I just graduated from trucking school (NETTTS, 11/23/09) and gotten my MA CDL Class A. I gotten all my application paperwork in to Swift & according to the recruiter she "doesn't have a date locked in yet" for my reporting to orientation. Is this normal? Any idea of how long this process takes? I've got applications out to the 4 corners of the country. Is it better to just go with the first company that gives you a firm committment?

It will seem that these companies are disorganized. Plus the holidays coming up. Then there are new-hires that get commitment dates from the company and change their mind. Some don't even call to say so. Then you have to consider companies that change their plans and get a message from the Prez that there is now a hiring freeze. You can go with the first one that calls you.

I'd go with the one that gets you on a truck the soonest! Just say yes to everyone that calls you and when you have KEYS in hand call them back and tell them thanks but no thanks! But do call them as some have been known, by reading posts in here, to have put something bad on the ole DAC report because you didn't show up!
This should also tell you something. WHY do they not have openings until such and such a date when they run ads every single day? HMMMM
Maybe a HIGH turnover rate maybe and they are staying ahead of the wave? -
Basically from what I have found so far in my calls, no one is doing anything until January so I would not even worry about it. Just sit back, relax, enjoy the holidays with your family, then start calling everyone in the book on Jan. 2nd. -

I got accepted at Swift on June 2nd and didn't get a date for orientation until Sep 15th. You will have orientation at Syracuse, NY. If you go to the Motor Carrier Questions and look under Swift in the DAC reports section there is a thread for Syracuse.
Which NETTTS did you go to? I went to Pawtucket in Feb 09. Took my 1st cdl test at Dartmouth and then passed my second at otis AFB. Long ride from the Worcester area.
Keep in touch with your recruiter so they remeber who you are. I talked with my at least once every 2 weeks, more like once a week it seemed. -
Awesome bill122250 - thanks for the info! I'm actually going to orientation (finally!) on Feb 16 in Syracuse. My NETTTS was in Pawtucket July-Nov. I passed first time at Otis (pardon me while I hurt my arm patting myself on the back)
