100 percent agree with this. We need people that want to be USA first and foremost. Then we need people that are top of the line or at least well off enough not to be begging for tax money dollars. Create wealth and better the USA, not drag it down!

Always followed the rules, often, to my financial detriment, but - a clean 21 year history has it's price.

I was in debt, and borrowed money to come here. I owned a house with a mortgage, and leveraged all I had to take the chance.

Certainly not fortunate. I never received a penny in assistance to become a naturalized citizen - instead, it cost me (us) about $8,000. (Us - being Gretchen and I)

I beg to differ, 90% of the forum are natural born US citizens. I came to their country. I abide by their country's rules.

Until they're providing for their loved ones, and pull a dumb U-turn in Florida and kill 3 people. Ask the families of the deceased to applaud their risks for reward.

I'll gladly sit down and have a coffee with you to discuss it face to face, but I think you're missing a lot here.

I think you're missing a lot as well. I understand everything that is said in this thread and many others similar. I just dont align. Ok, you leveraged your assets to come here. The point I'm making is that each path is different, each story is different. You had something to leveraged to pay for that. I can't remember which country you came from, I keep thinking Australia, but I won't commit to hard to that guess. Some can follow the rules because they have enough resources to do so. When you're deficient in resources, sometimes you gotta get creative.

The U turn in Florida, different discussion. To me that doesn't have anything to do with his immigration status. It was a dumb move for sure. That speaks to a different problem. As for that coffee, you buying or me? Lol

Keep everything the same, just change your country of origin. Do you think that would have changed the costs and or outcome of your immigration process?

I'll buy the coffee. Even cook you a decent burger.

Born and raised in NZ till I came here age 28.

I lived in and out of home from 15 years old to 18 years old, due to my own stubborn independence - and self sufficient from 18 years old. Bought my first home at 21 years old, and another 2 at 24 years old, $240,000 in debt at that stage, and worked 3 jobs and played drums in a band for years - averaging 80 hours a week paid work besides the labor I put into renovating my house - to make it all work.

When it comes to following rules - by conscience or integrity or guilt, I always have. The family crest is 'Fide et opera' - (By faith and work) and I guess it comes naturally.

I don't celebrate others misfortunes, but when it comes to this situation in an industry and country I have invested so much time and loyalty to - I struggle to have any sympathy for those who chose to skirt the rules natural born citizens abide by.

Trust me - I have lost friendships with other immigrants over my beliefs.

Mmmmm, don't know. Is this a loaded question?

I never knew of any assistance with the process, so I footed the bill.

Lol.....I never said it was easier for @blairandgretchen to get here because they're white. I'm not sure where you got that from. Anyway, when I say privileged, its not limited to solely race. I really meant us as in Americans, moreso us on this thread. Yes some people have enough resources to go through the process. Others do not. That's why they try to get in any way they can. Maybe it's wrong in terms of this arbitrary law, but in terms of MY moral compass, I see no issues. Being in another country is not a violation of morality in my opinion, and now that I put this out here, I've officially seen where the difference is in my thinking versus others. Different moral compasses.

By the way, I'm an American born black guy born to Jamaican parents. My mother was brought here by my grandmother, who got sponsored. 8 years of separation from her kids to get here, just by doing it the "right way." Nobody talks about certain costs along the way, so I feel empathy to these folks. No matter who comes here or where they come from, the cost is massive and it ain't always in dollars, so I choose not treat them or anyone else badly. Y'all are USA First. I'm Humanity First.

It’s all foreign drivers everywhere. Most are polite, keep to themselves, more so than the prior Industry dominated good old boy network. There’s always been plenty of morons driving Trucks. Flat out rude idiotic low life’s. Most were white trash know it all argumentive types. I’ve seen things at Truckstops that were beyond disgusting. I don’t miss them a single bit. Good riddance. I don’t blame the foreign drivers for taking advantage of a situation created by the Government, and the Industry itself. Including the long gone American born drivers. They, myself included, have tolerated way too much BS throughout the years. The Trucking Industry has always exploited drivers. They finally ran out of ####### American born drivers willing to do the job for such low pay. I’m still one of the #########, for now anyways. Real pay is down 31% in 30 years for me. Inflation up 100%, pay up 69%. It’s terrible. I’ve always believed everyone should look out for their own interests. Whether you’re a multi million dollar pro athlete or an average worker. Truckers have always put up with too much for too little pay. They spend more time complaining about others being overpaid than themselves being underpaid. It’s always been frustrating to me. Especially since I’ve spent the last 39 years being a part of it. I’m out ASAP. Hope it gets better. I doubt it. In a year the illegal drivers they’re cracking down on will probably just renew the visa’s and cdl’s. I applaud the effort. I applauded the increased parking effort announced years ago. Right now I’m parked on a shoulder outside a Loves with a bunch of other Trucks. Gotta love it.

This is great. Who cares that wages go down because they work under the table. As long as they can succeed while an american taxpayer is funding them thats all that matters.

Well, you're certainly an odd duck.

But, one of my previous band's names was "MAN SIZED ROOSTER" - so I'm a strange bird too.

    Coffee offer still stands.
