Weigh station questions

    Ke6gwf, you nailed it about oregon scales. I think they read the Prepass informational pamphlet, threw it in the trash, and just use a couple of dice. Most times when the scale is closed they will turn off the beacon, or whatever it's called, so you don't get any signal in your cab. But sometimes you will get the green when it's closed, like in most other states.
    And ,the big coop on I 5 mm 274 ,southbound in particular, will have trucks backed dangerously onto the highway and still won't give the closed sign. Which begs the question, how much is too much? We know it's crazy to be backed out onto the interstate, but how will the conversation with the bear go 5 miles down the road if you keep rolling?

    I believe Oregon and Washington use Norpass, so if you are only subscribed to Prepass you will never get a signal.

    Yeah Norpass is the one though need for Oregon, Washington and Idaho

    Hmm, I assume we have the norpass then. We only run OR and WA. And when I do get a green light, it doesn't flash as long as other states I've ran in other trucks. For example , I know there are some scales in the south where that green light was blinking for 10 miles. I don't know if that's more a function of the individual transponder or the one at the scales.
    But whatever, Oregon coops are silly.

    I was in a scale in Idaho getting ready to pay the overweight fee when some other truck went thru the scale highway speed hitting the scale and kept going, have to thank that screwball because the scalemaster said its your lucky day, get out and he was on with the chase. never saw him down the road but when that truck passed by it shook that chickencoop something fierce and the sound was loud.

    I'm going to take a wild assed guess and say there's some history between that driver and that chicken coop. Just a guess.

    Don't forget the state's that say enter unless line of trucks is past a line. Obviously if it's jammed out to the interstate I'm not going to slow down to 5 mph while people run by me at 70 mph. I've gone around the scales in those cases or where I couldn't get over due to heavy traffic. Never been chased down.

    The video in post #20 is a Norpass weigh station that redlighted my Prepass transponder. It has happened many times in OR/WA/ID
