I was in a similar position yesterday. Spent extra long at a shipper, 14 hour clock ran to zero but I needed to find a place to park. Drove 3 miles to a truck parking lot, Qualcomm gave me a log violation. A message to the logs department cleared it all up.

You won't be in trouble at Prime. I've gotten a few log violations myself with them. You may get assessed a "point." 20 points and your FM is forced to chat with you. Points fall off after 6 months. Just shoot a message to logs and explain what happened.

There may be arcane Canada-to-US border crossing rules, but I have put in on duty time quite a few times after a full 14 hour day, taken a 10, and gotten my full clock back the next day.

The most common scenario is this:

Because Shaffer allows off duty driving, it is not rare for me to arrive with a drop load with only a few minutes left on my 14. By the time I go to receiving, drop my loaded trailer, and PTI my new empty, I'm burning on duty time in excess of my 14. Then I go to off-duty driving and find somewhere to park.

Robert will not hang his drivers out to dry... Unless you are an issue. I worked there back in the early 90's, when Miss Vera had her office next to Roberts. ;-) Good people.

The distinction, I think, is when you exceed 11 hours of DRIVING time. Time spent on duty after your 14 or 11 is exhausted has no affect on tomorrow's available driving time, other than the obvious reduction of your 70.

Ah, perhaps. I've only had two drive time HOS violations in a bit less than 2 years. One for 1 minute over my 11, the other for 10 minutes or so over my 14, but the second didn't break my 11 hour clock.

I don't believe nobody has stated the real problem here....If you're stuck at a shipper or receiver that long...you're obviously hooked to the wrong trailer.

Go get an open deck and never deal with that garbage again!

    That is true.

You can have a 5000 foot trailer a mile high filled with spices in the little 2 inch high boxes.

Might take you approximately 18 months to unload that volume working with periods of naps. But you are not restricted in any way from working say 24 to 30 hours in the trailer unloading sometimes.

You just cannot drive without at least a 10 hour break.

I wont flame. I don't flame or play net kindergarden games.

When you find the correct type of trucking you can literally eliminate the lost money, time and heartache rotting at a reefer dock.

I know my life time earnings relatively approximate to the nearest say 20K but had I not screwed around so much on the dock in the reefer unpaid and even worse, paying lumpers.... and tolls and and and... I may have added 50% to the entire life time earnings Just by refusing to rot at the reefer dock all night and day.

At some point the Industry MUST declare mileage based pay feast and famine obselete. And go to a salary position with tenure.

You did fine, don't listen to her. Take your 10 from the time you parked the truck and send safety a message.
