West for me by far, I love long stretches of nothing and being able to find a parking spot any hour of the night. I'm on a dedicated route from Texas to North Dakota and after 2 years of weekly trips up there I'm still enjoying it. It's a four day run and pays very nice.

We have drivers that run coast to coast and off every weekend. They go to Pennsylvania one week and California the next. I fill in every few months when one of them is on vacation. Much prefer going west but will do either one.

Do they hire newbies like me? Recent grads? Well not recent but within a year.

For almost a year now I've been based out of OKC, running Texas and Oklahoma mostly, with some runs as far as PA, LA, ND, CO, and WY.

I'll admit I have a serious Jones for the Intermountain west right now. Big hills, wide open scenery, and you can count it a "traffic jam" if more than one vehicle is in sight.

I still have hidey hole spots on my bucket list for taking a 10. Places that might not have more than 6 vehicles pass during the night, leave the curtains open to see the view, and leave the screens open to listen to coyotes and crickets.

Best night I've had was watching the sun set over the Sierra Nevada mountains as I'm having dinner, then waking up in the wee hours to see the Milky Way unlike anything you can see with all the light pollution in or near big cities. Quite a concert from the coyotes helped get me to sleep.

Two years required, the only west coast terminal we have is in Los Angeles. Most tanker companies will require a few years experience but it's well worth the wait. In the meantime just get some miles and keep your driving record CLEAN and accident free.

I prefer the east. Prettier scenery to look at.

West all the way. Open roads, higher speed limits, nicer scenery. I hate the northwest especially NYC and Philadelphia.
