What’s it like to work in an extended sleeper truck?

If they have a yard dog.... Mfg plant I deliver to doesn't, and they get 60 trucks in an hour. 1 a minute (on average) 24/6
And one dock, while a sleeper can get in, it was built in 1947. 9' wide door to inside dock about 65' from door to fence in front.
I would really hate to try and be assigned that dock with a 120" sleeper truck. As in I really don't think it's possible, no matter how good a driver you are. Simple geometry.

I read alot about yard dogs but I do OTR for a small company and I never deliver to places that have yard dogs or lots of trailers. Theyre usually places with 2-8 docks. Is that unusual? Do other companies like schenider deliver to places where there are big warehouses and not smaller shippers?

I was wondering how overall length laws apply. Can you only pull 48 foot trailers without a permit?

Yeah I can only do pull through spots with my flat. I made the mistake of nosing in once. Had to have a rotator wrecker come down, lift my truck up and spin me back in the right direction. I’ve heard reverse is all the way left and up. Can anyone confirm?

  7. Now that's funny @blairandgretchen and @Gumper .

Next you'll tell him you don't check into guard shacks and wait 14hrs and pay lumpers to unload you.

The most important thing, IMO is wheelbase. I’ve seen some big sleepers on reasonable wheelbases, some with setback front axles. Very maneuverable. Let’s here what you all have for wheelbases

Long truck and 53 with wheels all the way back can be a pain, but pain is erased at night when I get a hot shower, fix something to eat out of the freezer and sit at a table to eat while watching satellite tv, then sleep on a full size temper pedic mattress, did I mention not waiting for a shower and not having to get dressed to go to truck and get undressed.
