What are some companies that pay for orientation and give you pay while waiting for a trainer? I'm asking this because I was recently "hired" by Western Express. I put that in quotes because I haven't received a single paycheck. As it turns out, they don't pay you for neither waiting on a trainer, nor orientation. I only have enough money left to pay my rent and not much else. Is this normal in the trucking industry? When I worked with Werner, orientation, breakfast and lunch was paid. They paid $400 per week while training or waiting for a trainer. I expected this from Western Express, but didn't get it. Either way, whay are some companies that pay for your orientation and pay while you wait for a trainer?

If you are looking to jump ship you better get on the phone. Every carrier I talked to before I took my current job paid for both. When in doubt, ask. Ask about everything, then figure on about 80% truth.

How did you go from Werner
    to western express.
What logic went behind that decision.

    Werner is your typical mega.
Western express is below the typical mega.

Nobody has to pay you for orientation
Or for waiting for a trainer.
It's strictly up to the company.

Not sure, but I think Western Express doesnt pay you your first paycheck until the end of the third week. Check out Maverick Transportation Little Rock AR. They $600 per week for training, plus $1,000 a week min pay once solo, but you have to work for them 2 years. If you jump ship before then, you will own them 1000's in tuition. They have a great flat bed division along with glass and reefer.

My recruiter said they will not pay for orientation in our first conversation. Also in his email he clearly stated “You will do 2 Days of Orientation then you would get on the truck with a trainer that would take you through that Refresher Course. We will be paying for your travel, hotel, and 2 meals a day while you are there. While you are out with a trainer we will be paying a salary of $450 a week. When you are finished with the refresher course you will go out on your own running the Western 11 states”

It is just a few days and they are probably tired of paying people who leave before ever getting on a truck. Good Luck!

Yeah, just a few days that I'm not making money. Meanwhile, I still have to pay rent. If I had known they weren't gonna pay me right off the bat, I'd 've kept my truck loader job at UPS. That way, I could go to the orientation during the day, then go to my job in the late afternoon and still be financially stable. I did something similar when I went to truck driving school...

I left Western Express as I didnt see ANY money from them for more than 35 days. The only paycheck I saw from western was for 13 cents per mile and that check arrived 6 weeks aftter signing on (11582 delivered miles). I had been told by my driver manager that I should see paychecks of at least 800 per week. When the check did arrive there was about $1500 of reasons why they didnt want to pay me. Service calls for broke down equipment and so on.

At least with CR England I saw paychecks of $250 a week when in training.

The lesson here is, when you quit western, make sure you have enough to survive on before you actually quit. Also, if a few days without pay is going to ruin you, you were never financially stable.

I wonder if it's possible to collect unemployment in PA while waiting for a trainer...

    Swift
    Roehl
