What are the benefits of a long wheelbase ?

    The factory can barely cover it with paint on a good day.

    ^ ya. Direct to metal paint with no primer, and from what I saw on a new one recently, I’d question whether they don’t assemble most of the chassis before paint.

    Well I read a thread suggesting inseed oil for pick up trucks living in area where They prep the roads with salt ...said it will last 1 year guess I’ll add that to the yearly maintenance List

    Ya there is something they now coat the rails with
    My double frame went from from motor mounts to right at rear of sleeper, which I understand is the highest stress point, so why they stopped there I don't know, but I guess I'll look into it once I get caught up, put about 40,000 on it so far, spend a ton on new to me trailer second load blew head gasket so inframe later back on road, at least it won't be a real problem to put inner liner on since it now has spacer plates between cross members to make up for double rail. I have heard of something they now use to seal rails, can't remember what it was though

    I can’t speak to whether my idea of 1/2” single rails is actually a better setup. I’m not an engineer n never stayed at a holiday inn express. Might could be it’s engineers saying it’s not better; and it might be the people looking at the bottom line.
    I know a couple fellas as acquaintances that re railed their dump trucks when the double frame started spreading with 1/2” rails. I haven’t heard any complaints.. otoh they prolly wouldn’t be jumping to offer that their idea didn’t pan out like they thought it would either.

    If I get the opportunity to build another heavy ten I’ll put up the info at that point. I don’t see it happening this year tho.

    I heard of boiled linseed oil to treat trailer decking (wood/open deck trailers). I sprayed all up under my trucks with that fluid film this past winter....... all my heavy trucks fared well and show no worse for wear. My brand new Chevy, the ####in wax frame coating they put on dropped off in a few spots. I’m not 100% but could very well be the fluid film loosened it up.

    Ya, it's a lot of work,I messed my shoulders up at the time and had to have a shop do it but I wanted at least hardened rails, they said they couldn't drill it, I should have insisted on it or taken it elsewhere, seemed everybody wanted 15 grand for job and big name shops the same but 4 month waiting list

    There are lots of ways to prevent corrosion. One way that I have seen used to good success is mounting zinc blocks to exposed metal. The zinc will oxidize before the steel. However, you have to keep that zinc connected, and replace it when it is close to falling off.

    I do not know if you could keep a zinc block properly mounted to a truck frame due to flexing and vibrations.

    Anyone know any examples of zinc block usage for oxidation prevention on trucks?

    Was just looking at fluid film I’ll probably try it to they spared basically everything on the underside except the exhaust .. when u used it does it leave any kind of shade or discoloration look? Didn’t go with a black frame so I can’t having looking dingy
