    That's on you.
I think that just to be a decent helpful person, your trainer should have answered. Just to help. BUT... What if your trainer was out of hours. The only way he would have had hours is if you'd been running team, and then we'd likely be listening to complaints about how training trucks shouldn't be run as a team. So he wouldn't have been able to take over driving duties. Did he even have time available to drive? Was he fresh off a ten?

Again, it sounds like your trainer is an a-hole. Now you know what you're dealing with. It's now time take control of your career, and accept that you are in charge of your training.

It's been a few days now, has anything changed? Have you talked to your trainer about what you expect from him? Has he mentioned anything about your ticket? How are things going otherwise?

Yes my trainer had hours. I had been on the clock for well over ten hours, he in the sleeper. My trainer is currently on his home time and we will be reunited tomorrow. I have contacted my saftey dept and informed them of the ticket. As for my trainer I have resigned to stick it out for the rest of my training. Right now my biggest concern is how the ticket will play out in court. The thing that's screwed up about my personality is that I allow myself to be subordinated and fail to rely on my own judgment whenever someone else is present. It is this reason why I think I'll be a much more effective driver as a solo and why training is so problematic to me.

No reason for excuses, stop blaming others, it is obvious you were tired, you should not have been driving and told the idiot that you were tired and not driving.

I may sound harsh but this isn't something that you are forced to do, you're are not a slave and you are in charge of your cdl no matter what others tell you.

It gets tiring hearing these things, this isn't a road trip in a vw microbus but you are driving a vehicle with a lot of responsibility, so take the responsibility, pay the ticket and move on,

Welcome to trucking. It just gna get better after training. Don't mind the cop writing you a ticket for slack adjuster, or missing reflector tape. Don't mind the shipper taking 6 hours to load you and telling you, you're SOL when ur time ran out and u have no parking. Don't mind the snow storm up ahead and pushing to make your appointment time.

Welcome to trucking. Grow a thick skin, rebuild your spine, because not many are gna last long. If you're complaintin over this, then you be surprise what real problem you're gna face out here.

to have a kegger while you do your job. whaddya want, training on top of that..??

his responsibility is to get stone cold drunk, and party like it''s 1999 with the lot lizzards he picks up at the truck stops. you wait and see, someday you too may become a trainer, and it'll all be clear to you then......

I love how simply posing a question equates to "posing a question = making excuses" in your mind. It seems like you are waiting for someone post their misfortune so you can go on a rant and kick them when they're down.

Maybe it would be helpful (or helpless) to write my question from the perspective of my trainer ... Hello everybody, I'm a trainer with an inexperienced student fresh out of driving school. The other day he said he was looking for a rest area to stop bc he was too tired. Instead of offering to help, I encouraged him to keep driving instead. Shortly afterwards he expressed confusion about which lane to drive, when he directly asked me "which lane sm supposed to drive in". I brushed him off, refused to make any attempt to help or answer his question. About 4 minutes later he was ticketed for driving in the wrong lane. When the cop asked me why I let my student drive that lane I lied to him (which I think is a crime) and told him that I was sleeping.

My question is what responsibility do I have towards students if any?

(From my own perspective now) I no longer wish to beat a dead horse as certain posters seem upset or tired of me. I really want to thank everyone for their different comments. I'm only concerned about my ticket anymore. How will it affect me? What are my chances of getting it reduced? Etc...

my response to the trainers way of saying it....

your student is a Nancy pants. i say let him out to dry, as he did after all go to school and he should have learned the correct lanes to be in, how to read signs, how to pay attention to signs. your encouraging him to continue to drive when he was tired was actually quite good, as this will make him build up his stamina that is much needed in this business. what did he think, that he's only going to be driving in clear weather, sunny days, and no night time driving at all..??

shame on your student for being a nancy pants,. but hell, that's what's going into schools these days, and coming out fully CDL licensed, and sadly, you have to finish up his training, or start from square one, as obviously, he knows nothing.

your responsibility was to observe him when you could, in between your nap time and maybe while you are reading a book, or cruising a Playboy.

he tried to pass off HIS ticket, for disobeying a traffic control device (signs) onto you as we all know, this is the normal things people do, pass off any responsibility unto others, sorry you got caught up in the fray.

have a beer, or a case, you deserve it, for being a trainer.

now really....why do you see the problem with your trainer, when YOU HAD schooling...???

as for the ticket, either find a lawyer in that area that specializes in truckers tickets, and pay the high dollars it will take, or pay it and be done with it.

if you are driving, why is it his responsibility to tell you what lane you need to be in..?? it is quite obvious, that if you have been driving for any length of time (your car as well), YOU KNOW how to read signs.

the question of what is the trainer's responsibility is, to hone your skills, as you already had training IN school and previously driving on the roads, in your car, so you should have been able to determine for yourself, what lane you needed to be in.

so you come to a stop sign, and you blow past it..you mean to tell me that you do not know what to do at a stop sign now..???
