23.5 tons takes my truck to 80k (what it's registered for) 30 tons of rock would put me at 13k overweight, so gross would be 93k (ish). The overall weight is not the issue I have ran heavier loads before.

If it was supposed to 3 a day I would think they would dispatch me 3 a day. I get my loads the night before and I am in line at the quarry every morning before they open the gate.

My state puts driver name on the ticket and can put driver in jail, which is rare. If the company doesn't pay, or pays late, and you get pulled in for inspection you can lose your license or go to jail.

1000 to 1500 you can lose just by popping the gate and dumping a small pile. Going back around and trimming a little off adds at most 15 minutes. Problem being its usually in the neighborhood of 2500lbs. I guess I could scale out, get my pit ticket, then go trim. Then I'd still be legal, the company would be charged for material I left behind. But my integrity will not allow such a scheme.

30 tons is pretty heavy for a vehicle only legal for 23.

On the west coast. There's no allowance hauling heavy. Like the east coast allows.

In my state. Cops will stake out the pits looking for trucks to inspect. Dump trucks get hammered for no tarps. So your load better not be above the walls.

Side dumps are always above the walls. They're not made high enough. Have your axles down and loads covered and you don't get hassled.

I'd start looking for another job if I were you. He's leaning on you to run overweight. He's smart enough not to say it outright, but he also messed up by admitting that he knows that most of his other drivers run OW and he allows it by not stopping them.

Right now I'm just doing it by the book, which is easy cause that's what I've been doing already. Not talking shop with anyone else for that matter. Definitely feel like the writing is on the wall. Thanks everyone for you thoughts on the matter. If something changes.... we'll that will be that.

I would get out my CYA notebook and make notes of these conversations......and start looking for a job that is on the up and up.

Something changed, I never heard from OPs anymore about running illegal/ legal. I was actually ignored. I'd get my loads, pull my loads and go home. Which was fine by me. Always civil and pleasant with everyone, but no further. But I could tell I was not part of the team after all.

I start orientation Monday morning with The Boring Company. They are building the underground tunnels in Sin City. 15% more per hour, straight hrly w/OT, 4x12 hr days, same work.

The most money I've ever made in my life was made running over 80k. The more gallons I put in the tank the more money I made. Most loads I was making an extra 15 cpm. I knew the risks involved and would take the fall if I got caught. Granted, I always ran when the sun was down. Would I do it again? Probably. Is it worth the risk of equipment failure or an overweight citation? Absolutely not. What you have proven in this post is that you're a smarter and stronger person than I am. I see dollar signs and gotta chase em

A question , say there is a catastrophic malfunction , brakes tire, tires , something and a wreck . It is determined that you were , are overweight . You pick a number , will there be a criminal charge ? Criminal negligence perhaps ?
