My husband has been a driver for over 27 years.
My greatest fear, is that I will get a much dreaded phone call, that there has been an accident, in which he is involved, far from home.
He is a safe, and good driver, but there are those four-wheelers out there, who don't give a bunk about the drivers.\

Mountains...big ones, used to love them...then got altitude sickness once... very scary, messed with my brain, tunnel vision,..there was a pull off, I got into it and set the brakes.

Got, did some jumping jacks, drank water...felt good. Got back in the truck, scrambled brain wouldn't let my hand release the brakes.

Came down in an ambulance. I hydrate before going over a pass, drive it slow even if I am empty...deep breaths all the way up and down. Seems to work but mountains aren't fun anymore.

Ice on the road... :biggrin_2552: I don't have much winter driving experience... despite of driving a big truck for almost 8 yrs, I don't consider that much... I become more stressed during winter and hate that season. I try to limit my winter driving to day hrs hoping the roads will be clean and clear of ice. I check and double check weather along my route, try to avoid roads that might be covered with snow and ice... But sometimes I have no option but to drive on snow packed roads with icy patches so that I can get to a better place or a safer place or just get out of there... I have gone thru very scary moments and some lasted some hrs... I was almost terrified, holding my steering wheel as if my life depended on it... But I tried to stay calm, focused and used those moments to learn from the experiences... I used this site and asked more experienced drivers how to deal in various situations when driving on snow and icy roads... I can say that nowadays I'm not as nervous as I used to be but I still hate it and wish I could skip the whole winter season on the road....

And my other big fear is try to find a parking spot at a Pilot or FJ or TA or Love's after dark when the place is congested...:biggrin_2554: I don't even go to those places after dark... :biggrin_25512: I spend a lot of time planning my trips, my stops, I always start driving as early as I can and sometimes I park one hr or more before my hrs end so that I can find a good place to park at a rest area or a less congested truck stop, or somewhere else... I realize that by avoiding going to those congested truck stops in the evening, I miss the opportunity to deal with my fear and practice my backing in tight places in the dark... But so far I haven't been able to overcome this challenge. :biggrin_25513: In any case, that has not caused me to be late for appointments and it has not made any big impact on my miles.
