Old Dominion does put new drivers directly in a line haul job. Just depends on what a particular terminal needs.
That company hired a whole class from a cdl school and put them all on line haul immediately because that's what was needed at that particular time.
~
Holland and FedEx also have line haul and sometimes need drivers so much they hire with a CDL-A Permit or even help people get a CDL-A.
Sometimes their websites don't reflect that.
~
Here's a CDL-A FedEx job in Charlotte:
- Must possess 1 year experience within most recent 3 years, OR successful completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course
- Automatic transmission CDL restriction allowed.
What career should I go with?

Go for the money. Car Hauling’s great, till you get old or too fat. LTLs always a hustle. You have to like the fast pace. Local Day work goes by fast. Tankers probably the best bet. Higher Demand, More Stability. They say it’s great. I don’t believe them.

201 Thanks this. -
Clean work, minimal or zero unpaid labor.
Daylight deliveries and those pesky short trailers along w a higher wage make the sector one of the most difficult to adapt too.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Car hauling is a fuster cluck! You´re gonna take to 2 to 3 hours to figure out how to load and place the dang cars on the hauler.

Every lot I go by has like 10 to 20 cars and they spread them out like they are fooling someone.
Maybe the auction moves are keeping them busy.Speed_Drums Thanks this.
