SO IM LOOKING INTO BUYING A TRUCK. AND I HAVE TONES OF QUESTION. ALREADY HAVE READ THE 6 STEP ON HERE. AND IM PRETTY MUCH PAST THAT POINT. IM 24 YEARS OLD SINGLE NO FAMILY OR CHILDREN.NOW BIG MONEY PROBLEMS HOLDING ME BACK JUST ME. IM CURRENTLY DRIVING FOR CENTRAL REF BEEN LEASING WITH THEM FOR A YEAR. THE WHOLE LEASE THING KINDA SEEMS OR IS A SCAM. BUT WHATEVER IM HERE AND IM IN IT NOW AND REALLY DONT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IT.TO ME I MAKE MONEY. WELL AT LEAST WHEN I DONT GO HOME THEN I GET SCREWED.BUT WHEN IM OUT ON THE ROAD I AVERAGE ABOUT 800-1200 TAKE HOME. A WEEK DEPENDING ON HOW THE WEEK GOES.BUT I KNOW I CAN MAKE MORE.IF YOUR GOING TO DO A JOB THEN WHY NOT GET THE MOST OUT OF WHAT YOUR DOING? I FEEL IT PRETYY MUCH HELPED ME LEARN HOW TO RUN MY TRUCK FUEL FOR THE LOADS. HOW MUCH FUEL IM GOING TO NEED TO GET WHERE IM GOING.ECT, SO WHY NOT OWN MY OWN TRUCK ?CENTRAL LEASE IS NOT A LEASE TO OWN.IF YOU WANT TO BUY THE TRUCK AT THE END.I THINK THEY WANT YOU TO PAY THE CURRENT VAULE OF THE TRUCK WHEN YOU DONE. IV BEEN PAYING 3600 A MONTH, 43,200 FOR A TRUCK THATS NOT GOING TO BE MINE?? AND AT THAT PRICE I COULD HAVE MAYBE BOUGHT A DECENT TRUCK RIGHT? ANYWAYS SO HERES WHERE IM AT. I KINDA LIKE CENTRAL BUT AM READY TO GO. SO IV BEEN LOOKING AT TRUCKS AND OFCOURSE IM REALLY INTERESTED IN THE 379 OLDER STYLE LOOKING PETES. THERES A LOT OUT THERE. I WILL HAVE THE MONEY FOR A DP BY THE END OF THIS YEAR. AND GOOD ON GETTING FINACED FOR ONE. GOOD CREDIT AND PAID OFF A CAR WHEN I WAS 21..AND A FEW MORE THINGS THAT ME LOOK GREAT ON PAPER.LOL BUT ANYWAY I REALLY WANT THE TRUCK I WANT WHICH IS A 379 BUT MY FRIST QUESTION IS AM I GOING TO MAKE MONEY IN THAT TRUCK? I PLAN ON LEASING ON TO A COMPANY HAVE BEEN LOOKING AT LANDSTAR AND A FEW OTHERS.. AND I COULD USE THE HELP WITH FUEL. AND REALLY LEARN HOW TO GET MY LOADS.DEAL WITH BROKERS AND I DID FLATBED FOR YEAR. BUT NOT WITH A TRUCK AN TRAILER JUST A STRAIGHT TRUCK.HAULING SOLAR PANNELS. I KNOW NOT TO BREAK EXPENSIVE PANNELS. I KNOW FLATBED IS GREAT MONEY. I DONT WANT TO COMPLETELY OWNER OP RIGHT OUT THE GATE. AND I JUST CANT AFFORD IT. NOT YET BUT I WILL RUN WITH A OWNER OP COMPANY FOR A BIT AND THEN BUY MY OWN TRAILER.. SO CAN I MAKE MONEY IN THAT TRUCK WITH ITS FUEL MILEAGE? I FOUND AN O7 PETE WITH 690,000 ON THE FRAME AND A FRESH REBUILD FROM CAT NOW WITH200K WITH 48MONTH WARRANTY FOR $35000.GOOD DEAL? I JUST CANT JUSTIFY SPENDING 80K AND UP ON A TRUCK.I UNDERSTAND YOU WIN WITH OUT ANY OF THE PROBLEMS BUT THATS JUST A RISK IM WILLING TO TAKE. I DONT WANT TO GO OVER 50K. I DONT WANT TO BE STUCK IN A PAYMENT FOREVER.SOO.. WHATS HIGH MILEAGE FOR A TRUCK?? IF SOMEONE PUTS AROUND 100K A YEAR ON THEIR TRUCK. SO AN 07 SHOULD BE AT THE 700K MARK FROM MILEAGE? SO THAT GIVES ME ABOUT 3 YEARS WITH THAT TRUCK BEFORE I HAVE TO SPEND 20K ON AN OVERHAUL.? WHAT ARE TRUCKS AVERAGING? A LITTLE OVER A MILLION?WITH A REBUILD SOMETIME AFTER? OR SHOULD I BE LOOKING AT A MORE ARODYNAMIC TRUCK FREIGTLINER, THE NEWER MACKS. THESE TRUCKS NEWER COST WAY LESS THEN A PETE WOULD. AND MAYBE GET BETTER FUEL MILEAGE. RIGHT? NOW WITH PETES WITHT HE CUMMINS OVER AN CAT. WHICH ONES GET THE BETTER FUEL MILEAGE.?ARE THESE NEW PETES LIKE 07 AN UP GETTING BETTER FUEL MILEAGE? MY 386 IS GETTING AROUND 7.5 EMPTY WITH TRL. AND 5.7 TO 6.5 DEPENDING ON WEATHER, HOW HEAVEY AND WHERE IM AT. ON THE i40 GREAT PERFECT.I LIKE THIS TRUCK BUT DONT WANT IT. BUT UNDRERSTAND MAKING MY MONEY COMES FIRST.ANYWAYS I KNOW CATS ARE THE MOST EXPENSIVE ONE TO WORK ON IF THEY FAIL. ONE THING I DO LIVE IN CALI AND WITH THESE NEW LAWS COMING INTO EFFECT SOON. RIGHT NOW 07-09 FROM WHAT I CAN UNDERSTAND CAN STILL RUN CALI TILL 2022.READ SOMETHING GO WITH 2010 AND NEWER AND YOU WONT BE BOTHERED. I FEEL ITS JUST TO MUCH MONEY RIGHT NOW THE GATE AND I DONT WANT TO DO IT.BUT MAY HAVE TO. WHAT IF THE REST OF THE STATES DECIDED TO ADOPT CALIFORNIAS LAW?HMM? DOES THE 07-09 PETS COME WITH DPF OR DEF. AND WHAT IS THE DIFFERANCE BETWEEN THE TWO? IS IT JUST 2 DIFFERENT EMMISIONS CLEANING SYSTEMS? MY 13 386 HAS THE DEF TANK. SO IM WONDERING IF IT HAS THE FILTER 2? I CAN WORK ON THE BASIC BUT DO KNOW EVERYTHING JUST YET.. IV SEEN THE TRUCKS WITH JUST THE FILTER AND NO DEF? SO IM A LITTLE LOST THERE. UMM SORRY IM KINDA ALL OVER THE PLACE BUT HOPE ANYONE CAN ANSWER MY SCATTERED QUESTIONS. PLEASE HELP IF YA CAN. LAST QUESTION? WITH THE WAY THE ECONOMY IS, IS THIS EVEN A GOOD IDEA?
What decision to make??? And when??

Dpf. Diesel particulate filter.
Def. ". exhaust fluid.
Plan on both to be carb compliant. Or move out of California.
Might want to lease on to a company first before tackling your own authority. Learn the ropes.
Well taken care of, a million plus - abused, not so.
Order an ECM report for lifetime mpg - if you're getting serious on a truck. Also reccomend a rig dig report.
Self finance if possible.
Get out of that lease program ASAP.
I'm tired now. And I'm just a silly company boy.SPOONS_321 Thanks this. -

Check with Cardinal Logistics and maybe buy a truck through their program; it's a purchase, not a lease. They have reefer & flatbed divisions. They let you buy one of their trucks or choose any truck from anywhere.
Cetane+, blairandgretchen and SPOONS_321 Thank this. -
You can't just buy a truck and expect for money to just fall into your lap, you have to have a game plan. Strategy. The gig you have right now...you're going to eventually go bust. You're not getting ahead with the money you make. How so? Your paychecks are the same amount that you would make if you were a company driver.
If you and a company driver go to the exact same shop with the exact same problem and it takes the a week to get both trucks back on the road, who makes more money? The company driver. He will get breakdown pay, you won't. If you and the company driver both go home for two weeks, he comes back out, gets in a truck, turns some miles, he makes a paycheck. You will get a negative statement for a few weeks. So why in the world would you lease a truck and make the exact same pay? You're losing.
So, you're looking to jump ship. Where to? You have no idea. You don't want to go out and buy a truck, try to get rolling, and don't have a destination. If you're going to jump ship, jump ship first, make sure you land safely in a better place, get reestablished, THEN buy the truck. If you want to try flatbed, go flatbed in someone else's truck, see if you like it BEFORE you buy a truck, chains binders and tarps. If you want to try a tanker, same thing. Don't go out buying a truck with a wet kit, hose rack...etc then decide that it's not your scene. Measure twice, cut once.Green-eyed Lady and SPOONS_321 Thank this. -
