Stay away from Dollar General and Dollar Tree accounts. Some of the most ridiculous, unforgiving delivery areas; not even docks.
Dominick253 and The Patriot Thank this. -
The next store was very tight. Every store is different.G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
Or..like I did...find all the extremely difficult docks to bump early on in your carrer, then...laff yer bunz off while backing into the last spot @ the truck stop @2:00a.m. in the snow & rain!!
Whooo Hoo.
I swear, when running end dump and doing a lot of city/school/etc work we would not take a job unless it had cars, power lines or buildings within spittin'distance of everything on our trucks! -
The first day on the job every dock is hard to back to. With experience they all become easier. At some point you can't understand how in the world you ever thought that dock was difficult. Finally, you look forward to something different and challenging. Then you die.
G13Tomcat, Giuseppe Ventolucci and Pumpkin Oval Head Thank this. -
Almost any dedicated has easier backs, driving, and trip planning then OTR. Even if the backs are difficult, you will get to do them several times and have lots of time to practice. The big box stores built in recent years will always have easier backs then the old brick and mortar stuff that was built in the day of cabovers and 40' trailers.
Big Don and Balakov100 Thank this. -
Easy is not happening. Your friend is showing cowardice and need to go to school to learn backing properly.
Rare is a easy day in trucking. RARE. Things that I found hard when I was new I find easy because it's by doing and making mistakes sometimes crunching something.
No one anywhere in USA rates a customer, shipper by ease of backing. Hell... there was a dock in PA not far from GBurg that I was given 20 docks a choice to back into after a all night and day epic fight with snow across mountains. I was too exhausted to back into anyone of them. A trip of a thousand miles was worthless for me despite being on time at 9 AM and someone else backed into.
No fault on my part just a failure of the mind and body due to sheer exhaustion. Simple and easy things become impossible sometimes. Consider that.Friday, The Big T and Swedish Chef Thank this. -
Avoid the dollar stores.
Good chance you (or your friend lol) will have to unload or help unload anyway. -
Or have to engage in gunplay to blast the robber going after your ###.
Dollar stores here in Arkansas have chronic low morale and VERY high threat. It's fortunate the minority is too stupid to rob the armored truck in front of walmart each morning at 10. -
Difficult backing is just a way of life as a truck driver. One day you'll back into a dock at an apple farm in Virginia, the next day you'll back into a dock off the street in Hoboken, New Jersey... It's all part of the job. The only way your friend will conquer his backing problem is to just do it and get it over with. He'll get the hang of it in time. We all had difficulty backing at some point.
x1Heavy Thanks this.
