Hi everyone,
My term SLC, sent out a msg saying California is now going to pull in and DOT every Swift truck.
Does anybody know why or the real reason? My DM said something about inspections but didn't say much else.
Just curious,
thanx
What did Swift do to piss off California?

I'm not a fan of Swift, but if this is true then I see a serious problem with that.
Why is CA arbitrarily deciding to single out an INTERSTATE carrier for increased scrutiny? If the Federal government (who is responsible for regulating interstate carriers) doesn't have Swift on a 100% inspection list, then how does CA have the authority to do this? Sure would be nice if all carriers would stand together and just not cross the border into CA until this nonsense stops. -
Just another "fear and terror" message. California has always had a strong enforcement policy by it's DOT. Maybe, someday, Swift will actually have a real safety department, staffed by trained people.

Might not be true; maybe a bs story to make drivers focus on pre-trips , etc. more.

There was the Long Beach thing a few years back where Swift took a $7 million grant from Long Beach, the purpose of which was to purchase 'green' trucks and operate something like 75% of the time in the port with the green trucks. My sources say Swift took $2 million and bought green trucks (you've seen them, with the green Swift logos) and pocketed the other $5 million. Long Beach raided Swift and sued them, it took some years again for Swift to be found guilty of not operating up to the 75% standard, in fact it was something like 14%. Swift was fined over $2 million for breaching the terms of the grant contract.

I think that it is just Swift's turn in the barrel now. CA has their panties in a wad again. It will cool down again soon. CA has to gear up for thier next big thing, reefers and being compliant.

i heard rumor its because of the new hos rules coming into effect and dot is tightening their belt on all the big carriers.. not sure tho.
i have heard rumors that swift is now checking ALL trucks anx trailers in fuel lines at ALL terminals doing inspections, so that when we get pulled into coups we will be compliant. so be forewarned that all trucks trailers that enter swift are going to get a 1/2 assed inspection, yes even us o/o will be underthis new polocy.
that being said i see myself hitting mac22 a lot more on these pos trailers i pickup out otr. im not getting my dac report hit cause of faulty equiptment. if i have any question about breakes, tires, rims just about anything... im calling onroad and mac22 my loads.
friend of mine in lathrop terminal just got his trailer red tagged due to a tire the tech said was bad. he also mentioned that they will have guys walking around the terminals like the tire guys inspecting trucks, trailers and if anything is in question, they will use tneir new lil ipad things to put the truck or trailer in red tag till fixed..
so those of ya that go to terminals a lot, beware..truckbuddha and scottied67 Thank this. -
Also received a message the other day, checking more and more at the exit gates for DL and Med Card. Not just the dispatch window if picking up or t-calling a load. Does this mean that we will have to get out of our truck so that we can show the DL and Med Card.
