These companies aren't anti-American; it's just a different world today. There was a time they would accept military driving time. My son was given a CDL, when discharged, based on his SeaBee driving and several companies offered him jobs immediately. A few days after discharge he was running coast to coast pulling reefer. It's not that way now. It's not the trucking companies, it's the laws and insurance companies rules. If you have the self discipline to complete your military service, you have the self discipline to follow todays rules to enter the trucking indutry.

[SUB][/SUB]When I descended my first mountain with my trainer, Cabbage with 42k of chicken in the box, about halfway down he said I was doing pretty good... he asked if I had any mountain driving experience... I asked if hauling missles in the Alps in wintertime counted?

I'm always calm when I talk to a potential employer, it's only when I'm sitting at home looking for jobs that I get frustrated. In the old days a man could go in the military, learn a trade, come out and get a job and people were happy to have someone "military trained". Seems like since the college craze in the 80s and 90s everyone got degerees, then you started having to be licensed or certified in all these trade jobs instead of just having experience. The military did not follow this trend and now you have all these guys and gals getting out with training and knowledge but not the civilian equivialant certifactaions and such and just like the CDL guys, you're back at square one. I know plumbers, electricians, HVAC guys, equipment operators and on and on that are in the same boat as me because of this. Hell, while I have this driving experience we were kind of "jack of all trades" kinds of guys. I also operated equipment, did wedling and metal fab work, carpentry, concrete, same thing though. No welding certifacation, so my experience is no good. Now that I've pointed out all this bad stuff, I'll tell you this. The military has finally realized this. They are in the planning stages of implementing programs to get all the young guys these credentials as they come through training and offering it to those who have already been on active duty for a while. It doesn't do anything for those of us that have already done our time and moved on but at least they're trying to fix what's broken. -
