drain it after the truck sits for a while, not running, allowing the sediment to collect/drop to the bottom of the filter or separator. i drain mine after i finish fueling.you should catch the first batch or three in a clear container and witness first hand the junk they collect. -
Thanks for all the info...I drained it into a used as her fluid bottle then poured it down the drain at the pilot in Duncan sc. It was pretty bad...

Just take it to your nearest Sunoco fuel station. They reuse it in their coffee pots lol. Nastiest coffee I've ever had.
Balakov100 Thanks this. -
I open the fuel/water separator for 2 seconds and let it drain on the ground at the fuel island. I guess you could catch it in a container and drop it off at autozone for disposal or your company shop.
The 2007 emission engines or older were ment to run the low sulphur diesel. When they mandated the ultra low sulphur diesel for the new engines, the older ones didn't like that fuel so much. You will plug up about 1 fuel filter per 13,000 miles with the older engines.Last edited: Jun 15, 2014

How much water should come out. I just got in a truck and think I am the first one yo drain it. I drained it about 10 minutes and it was still going. A lot of fluid has drained already. Should I open it back up until it stops?

Anywhere you get fuel there's a drain for storm water run off or spills. The fuel company takes it all back to the refinery as "Transmix" and they process it. It sounds funny and far fetched but if EPA or anyone with the clean water act sees you dumping it on the ground you could be fined for a large amount. Right now they don't have the people to check everywhere so the limit their inspections to fuel companies and truck washes. Even gas station are not allowed to have water run off their property when raining. Some day we'll all be watch.

Huh?
I've never drained it, in any truck I've had.
Maybe they do it during the b-service?
I guess, at 40k miles between services, it would make quite a mess.
Still, never done it and never had a problem because of it.
