That’s just what Guys would say, along with b model Cats were better than C models. Facts don’t matter, When it comes to opinions. I had a C model, it was great, except for the Peec electronics, but that’s a whole other history lesson. Detroit stole Engineering secrets from Cat for the electronic injection system, leaving Cat behind in the technology. Later settled in court. But the famed electronic injection Detroit’s are credited for, originally was Cats project.

It is a 1988 brochure. They were gearing up for the 50th anniversary the next year in ‘89.

I agree with your view on the w900.

I Couldn’t figure out what I liked about it over a Pete back when I first started driving and knew nothing about trucks .

It’s the peak in the hood and grill that gives it that distinctive look.

    Sharp truck.

Interesting. I thought the N14 wasn't available until around '91?

There was a mechinical N-14 that was availiable before that. Very rare. It was the bridge between the Nt88 and the electronic N-14. Cummins was testing them out with a rather large grocery company here in SA back in the late 80’s thru about ‘92 in some White/GMC/Volvos. They also had some with water cooled after coolers on them like the BC4. Pete was really pushing the series 60 back then as the future engine. People fought back with what engines they ordered and let them know that Cat was what they wanted most so Pete gradually put Cats in the majority of them “standard” by the time the model 379 ended.
If you look up Bob Spooners yellow 1961 Peterbilt 351 on you tube you will see he still runs that truck with a old mechanical water after cooled N-14.
