It's been several years since I've received a citation. Better question: what's your average?

I just caught that. To the OP, if a driver is averaging DOT fines every year, their career most likely will not last many years. I would think most drivers would learn from a fine and avoid getting more. I for one hated donating money like that! Because in the end, this is all you are doing!

    Labrador and bryan21384 Thank this.

I've been driving since 2016, no tickets, no fines or violations. The route I pickup keeps me away from the DOT anyways. I'm local and run within the radius that I do not need an ELD. no log book. I get in the truck in the morning, pickup milk, and park the truck where I found it.

I do make sure tires, brakes, and lights are all up to snuff

In 22 years of professional driving, nothing until six months ago. Two tickets for driving on “no trucks allowed” streets. No excuse, and it won’t happen again.

rachi, lovesthedrive, bzinger and 2 others Thank this.

We don't budget anything for DOT fines.
We have a lady in the office whose main job is regulatory compliance...getting the right paperwork to the right agency in the time required. Late fees and penalties have dried up to nothing. She's more than worth what we're paying her.

A single ticket can cost a bunch. The biggest fine I've see was to one of our competitors for fraudulent log books. The fine was close to 50 thousand. The state came in on top of that with a fine for fraudulent payroll records and the fine was 25 grand. He also lost his operating permit for 60 days and he wound up filing bankruptcy.
    Then he got divorced.
Then he had a heart attack.
Last I heard he was working as an assistant manager at a Burger King in Escondido.

Last time i was fined was back in 2006 in highschool drove 10 miles over speed limit but a week prior the speed would have been legal they changed it from 40 to 30.

not mention theres only one-speed limit sign on that road thats at the beginning but because I dont buy newspaper which only place posted not website even they expect everyone know it.

I assume that many get pulled over by the DOT but not always fined. Maybe mos to the time there is no fine?

Only time I've ever had interaction with officers in a CMV is chicken coops and then those passed without issue. It's not that hard to run legal and thus avoid 99% of the problems people have with LEO's

Good to hear. What do you mean by chicken coops?
