The one time I had to lay down away from my home terminal from running out of time, I was told to use the $70 allowance.
When I woke up in the afternoon, I bobtailed to Ruth's Chris and maxed out that $70 allowance, and had zero issue getting reimbursed. I would normally not go to such extreme, but having used my 16 once already that week, and the hub kicking me out at 0700, I really had zero f**** to give about the topic.Bob Dobalina, jmz and LPjunior1970 Thank this. -
That’s awesome! I’ve traveled on their dime before for education related reasons and had a hard time spending a full $70 a day. The only day I came close was when I put gas in the rental car, and that doesn’t even count towards the limit. I’d spend maybe $6 at QuickTrip for breakfast, $10 tops on fast food for lunch, and maybe $15-$20 for dinner.

GFS Chain we get $39.50 for each night we are out. 2 nights gives me an extra $79.00 in my pay each week.
jmz Thanks this. -
At Reddaway our layover pay was $30. Enough reimbursement to cover two, maybe three meals.
Many of us would double dip since several of the hotels we stayed at had a free hot breakfast buffet and the only contingency was getting to the hotel on time.
Curious how much of a daily allowance the OTR guys get since they are out for weeks and even months at a time. They must be ballin if they play their cards right and cook their own food in their trucks. -
I've only ever worked for one company that allowed for meals. That was $20 per day. That was a small mom & pop outfit. Otherwise, no one has ever paid for meals etc.
I had a company CC to pay for extra's & emergencies along the way. I just paid for meals up to $20 & turned in the receipts.road_runner Thanks this. -
Our drivers run the same type of schedule as the OP. We got $40 per shutdown

You think otr guys get paid a daily allowance for meals?

The best they get is part of their pay might be shown as a per diem allowance on their paycheck for tax purposes. It's not an extra pay though, unless you work for a company like Walmart. -
where i live who ever eats that cheaply will be dead within 10 years, there must be major sacrifices in order to eat that cheap.
-
Actually, the less you eat the longer you live. What kills truck drivers is that they eat to much!
