Nothing will happen. The megas will see to that. The megas and the deep state run trucking. They don't care about tantrum throwing owner operators or drivers......you are nothing but gnats to them. Sorry that is the hard truth.

I can tell you I'm going to keep trucking business as usual. No big deal.

For those who wish for a level playing field it still won't help you. You have to want to win to play the game. Not show up to ride the pine

Nah, megas don't have the capacity to handle all the freight. If that was the case, spot market wouldn't exist

The biggest impact it will have on outfits running long distance in a frivolous way (in a positive meaning of the word). No more room for white volvos doing Chicago - Stockton, CA - Salinas, CA - Chicago, IL in 5-6 days. We might pay a little more for a pound of Broccoli comes January 2018.

You can log it any way you want,

You can log Line 4 while you're checking in and backing in the dock, then after you're empty you can drive 100 miles to a truck stop.
It'll log the drive time and show a log violation.

Or you can log it all off duty and sneak in a 10 hour break.

Or you can reschedule the load so it's a legal load.
But remember, if you are on paper or elogs and you log off duty or sleeper and you are involved in a bad wreck later that day,
any lawyer will look at your bill of ladens and go to that warehouse and get the video of you standing in line at the customer or backing into a dock.
That could mean jail time and getting raped in the showers, or raping in the showers.
But the odds of that are minuscule

I can't believe how many adults complain about a level playing field or having different HOS for different areas of trucking wouldn't be fair. I tell my young daughters all the time "fairs are where pigs win ribbons"

Surprising how someone in a capitalist enterprise is wanting a level playing field. Sounds like somebody can't compete. I unfortunately am going to be stuck with the mandate in my 2003 unit. In theory this whole "level playing field" ought to give someone late/last minute with fresh hours ready to roll out a lot of leverage on rates. But that remains to be seen and I won't hold my breathe. I can tell you if rates stay like they have been I'll definitely be looking for a cheap 99 to rebuild. If we're going to continue on business as usual and little to no compensation for the hours of wasted time routinely busting our 14 hour clocks on ELD's I might as well go back to the old way where you can actually have a little flexibility and make a half assed decent living, right?

Just like every other change in the regulations over the last 36 years I have been in trucking .

This one is going to be the one that kills the industry .
This one that is going to make things safer.
This one is going to weed out the outlaws .
This one is going to bring the rates up to where they should be .
This one will make every driver a better driver .
This one is the one that puts everyone on the same level playing field .
This is the one that will make all the drivers stand up and say we will not take it anymore .

The truth is this one is going to be like every other one just another day in trucking .
Not better not worse not richer not poorer .
Just the same old same old another day trucking .

I will get in the truck fire her up and get that same feeling I always do when I am getting started with my day.
I will smile when my old truck comes alive and we start another day of doing what we do best and what makes me happy .
Seeing the sun come up on another day in this great country of mine as ride I down the road thanking the good lord that I am one of the lucky ones that gets to do what I love .

The ELD will not take money out of your pocket unless you are really not playing by the rules .
It will take some getting used to no doubt but it will not be the game changer either way that everyone is squawking about .
There will be a few changes to adapt to but hey we are nothing in trucking if we are not good at adapting .
If anything the ELD is just like the automatic truck and the qualcom and the gps .
One less thing to teach the next 160 hour wonder .

Now I say all of this knowing that I will still be on paper logs at least until the next round of regulations that won't work either .

But we will adapt to the changes then like now and in days past ...... Just another day in TRUCKING !!!

I predict that the world will end on December 17th, just like it did on January 1,2000.
