Usually second gear on my 18, might use 3rd if I’m going left, might go all the way to low and just creep if I have multiple areas of attention to pay to
And no burning brakes up going into a corner, start dropping gears
What gear to be in when making tight right turn?

In the old days (in Ca.) you could not change gears in an intersection. Not sure if that rule has been changed, so you grabbed your gear before entering the intersection. The OP asked about turning real slow, which to me means 1st or 2nd gear.
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
That is still the rule - shift during a turn and you lose a point on your cdl test.Rideandrepair Thanks this.

I don't think you can change gears while crossing a RR track either.MACK E-6, D.Tibbitt, Rideandrepair and 3 others Thank this.

When I did my road test we were told not to shift over the RR tracks. They wanted us to roll our windows down also.201, Rideandrepair and pete781693 Thank this.

That is also true in Mississippi. When I went to take my road test (which turned into a debacle), the tester told me there were no tracks on the test route but at some point he would tell me we were approaching a RR crossing and to approach the area as if it were a true RR crossing.Rideandrepair Thanks this.

My first road test I took a turn real wide because I was unsure of the tandems and the instructor took off points. Said I “left room for traffic to get in”. The road was empty…Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Every body’s set up is different. I would go into it in 3L if tight 3H if wide. That’s on a 18 speed 3.25 rear.

A tight city turn I'd probably be in 1st- 2nd (13sp). 3rd would be pushing it depending on your gearing

The road isn't always empty.D.Tibbitt and gentleroger Thank this.
