Back in the late 70's the company I worked for had several old trailers, many of them had butane units. They bought several new off brand units, can't remember the brand. For about 1 years these units worked great, but after about 1 year they went to pot, and we started having even more troubles than ever.

The butane units were great, not really! I remember in cold weather the butane would freeze. These butane units would cool the load down them kick off. Them when the temp would go up, it would start back up to cool it down again. Oh, we did not have any lights to the trailer to tell us what the unit was doing. In cold weather when the butane would freeze up while your going down the highway the started would kick in and keep on trying to start till the battery was plump dead. That was fun! Plus some of our trucks were positive ground, that did not help either. Them were the 'good old days.'

You know it's funny...I worked at a company pulling reefers and i was checking the unit. Drive belts, oil level, etc.. and I had another one of our drivers (who I found out later on was one of the longest tenured guys there) say "I didn't know you could open those up"

That is the exact reason that I always checked my reefers before taking a trailer off the yard. Not that by doing that you guarantee a breakdown isn't gonna happen but it makes ya feel better.

Did your company instruct you to donate the bananas to to a local food bank, or did you do it on your own?
