    Hmm.
    I can imagine that’s all, our road is solid ice, had sleet then freezing rain on top.
    Not supposed to be out of here til 6pm tonight.
    Rates are the same, not even an enticement to run on ice.

    It’s the Low Nox program. This engine was built with it. My last one wasn’t. It was the last of the big polluters. This one needs to be tuned. Timing needs to be advanced a bit. Should help 5-10%. .3-.6 mpg. Also needs an alignment. Running how I do, it should get 5.8 winter and 6.2 summer. I don’t like Michelin’s. Not at all. I run closed shoulder Luggers on drives. That costs .3 mpg probably. Also thick 140 gear oil, in rears. On average the best a Classic gets is 6.5 vs. 7 for a Century. That’s an average from Werners fleet, around 1999-2000. They were set at 68 mph. Probably running lighter on avg. than I do. My last one got 6.8- 7.2 consistently Better if I really babied it. Once I started running heavy and in hills, avg. dropped to 6-6.5, speed, weight, and especially the wind and hills has a big compounding effect. Light on flat ground running at 1375 rpm @ 62 mph gets the best economy. Not practical in the hills. Little Detroit has to be wound up to 1650-1700 to get up the hill. Downshifting costs more fuel economy than just winding it up, and only dropping one or two gears. Besides have to make time. Hit the bottom at 79 mph to make it up the next one. Just doesn’t have the torque like a Cat. A Cat might get a little less mpgs, but is less affected by conditions. There’s hope yet. Idling really affects this one. Over 1 gal per hr. vs. my last Detroit .75 gal per hr. I honestly think this one has a bit more drag, due to the roof slope. It’s at a longer angle than a 70” bunk. Longer bunk has more drag too. Then there’s the weight, Trucks 20k,full of fuel. Trailers HD paper spec, heavy at 15k. Barely can load 45k. Can’t get weight onto steers. 285 wb. front axles 11,800 no matter what. This Truck has always averaged 5-5.5. Since new. Previous Owner said he ran heavy 75 mph all the time, 5-5.5. I bought it and drove it easy. Got 5.8-6.2. I get tired of that. My times worth something. Rather hammer down and get an extra hr. Sleep. Had enough years running in 55 mph zones. 65-70 is much better.

    Sit tight thru this, get well or a lot better. You don't need to be down some where away. Rates will always be unprofitable, just how bad, will vary. but, when the stars align (You feel good. Decent load to ducat place) Back in the game and make money.

    Oh I’m not going out in that, when it was sleet, before freezing over I made a pathway to the porch to take dog out, had oil dry in back of pickup, threw some of that on ground, if rear pickup door wasn’t frozen shut, or I’d have remembered, got some birdseed for the wild birds so they’d have something to eat, it’s in floorboard of truck.
    Instead they had some diced up fried potatoes, they eat that pan full.

    It’s the little things I guess.
