The smell of a new record. Pulled off the plastic wrap, slid the paper sleeve out, then that vinyl was carefully slipped out. And you stared at it a moment, then a good sniff. That new record smell! That was the 60’s.

I worked at a sheetrock plant in Richmond, Ca for like 18 years. Plant was located on the inner harbor area and the gypsum they used came in by ship to a dock at the back of the plant. The area was part of Henry J Kaiser's shipyards during World War II and there is no telling what and how much bad stuff was dumped in there. But DDT was for sure. There were signs up and down the channel warning people of the DDT contamination and telling them not to eat anything caught or harvested from those waters. The crew of the gyp rock ship were all Chinese and would scour the rocks at waters edge for clams. Told about DDT they just nodded their heads and smiled.
We would set spring loaded lines from the dock and at the end of the day would have a mess of Perch to eat. It's been 30 years now and that DDT ain't killed me yet.LoSt_AgAiN, Feedman, BennysPennys and 14 others Thank this.
