I lost touch with Fritz but a mutual friend kept in contact with him. We'll call the mutual friend Doug.
Anyway, Fritz bought a new Dodge pickup truck with duallies and a Cummins and a 40' trailer. Doug passed along epic stories (complete with pictures) such as how Fritz ended up spending over $5000 for two tow trucks to get him down a goat path on a mountainside between the Ho and Warshington when his GPS shortcut went from concrete to gravel to dirt.
But the best epic story was the one that ended their friendship. Fritz told Doug about this load from Georgia to Houston that paid like a million dollars. Doug pointed out that Hurricane Harvey was headed towards Houston at that very moment. Fritz dismissed this concern by pointing out (with a German accent) that it was no big deal because it was just a big rain storm. He took the load and got stuck waiting a hundred miles from Houston for a week.
Finally he decided that the million dollars wasn't worth it and abandoned the load. Apparently people were extra pissed because it was equipment for some kind of stage show and they had to have it RIGHT AWAY after the big rain storm calmed down.
Doug told me that LandStar told Fritz they would no longer give him any loads. About six months later, Fritz asked Doug if he should try to get back with LS because he wasn't getting million dollar loads from the load board any more. Doug told him to go for it.
A big shot at LS told Fritz to come see him next time he was near Houston. Soon Fritz deadheaded a couple hundred miles to go talk to him. When Fritz went to the big shot's office, he was told that he would NEVER EVER haul for LS EVER AGAIN. Doug thought that was pretty funny and told Fritz so. Fritz doesn't take Doug's calls any more. Doug and I still laugh about it from time to time. I suppose that's kind of mean though.austinmike, InTooDeep, Feedman and 15 others Thank this. -
