Blizzard warning in effect overnight in Northwest Missouri

Strong winds and blowing snow could cause whiteout condition

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for a large northwestern area of the state, including Kansas City.

The combination of strong winds and falling/blowing snow will lead to near whiteout conditions at times in northwest Missouri including the Kansas City area overnight tonight. A Blizzard Warning is in effect from 9:00 p.m. tonight until 3:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Strong winds will affect a broader area of the state, but the strongest predicted speeds, up to 70 miles per hour winds, will be in northwest Missouri. A High Wind Warning is in effect from 9:00 p.m. tonight until midnight.

Drivers are advised to be cautious or avoid travel during these conditions as high winds can lead to increased risk of turnover.
