I grabbed this from my 85 year old neighbors place - cleaned it up and oiled it. I imagine that it was his father’s, and saw good use, judging by the wear marks on it.

But I never saw Tom use it. Hand tools were hung in the shed and rarely used.

As my chiropractor farmer friend says - “Blair , we live in the hydraulic age”.

Last load of corn in the bin, my harvest is officially complete. In other news, I broke my previous record of 30loads of corn cobs in 1 week, by hauling 36 loads this week. Were 2 trucks short, so 2 of us ran double shifts all week. My tail is dragging bad, but I’m only 2 batches of feed, and the milking of 74 cows away from the weekend. IMG_3940.jpeg And, this storm is tracking long ways over us, I’d be lying to say I am not intensely pleased to have gotten harvest done this afternoon!!! IMG_3943.png

The cast iron is probably great for camp fire cooking, heat retention when energy resources are somewhat limited. But we have instant access to gas and electric, propane - so the cast iron can stay as a reserve.

I’ve been snooping and reading here about the dissatisfaction of restaurants, and I’m on the same page as the resident hoity toity food snobbery poster - you can do way better at home.

I haven’t travelled down the path much - but his ideas of high class bejeweled royal class herbs and spices make sense too. Why wait for Guy Fieri or someone else to blend and package a seasoning and sell it to you when you can DIY?

Anyway - 3 on the side - over and out. (Apart from short rib pictures)

Should be stamped in the blade where it was made. If it says Austria, you have a winner.

Well I went to State Park and drove back in the rain. I have put less than 200 miles on it, since I got it.

Yeah, a couple of barrel staves swishing along on deep soft snow. Sure beats cracking concrete straddling steel.
