    Too many johnson bars
    photojohnsonbar.JPG
On a steam locomotive. The johnson bar is used by the engineer to decide forward or reverse. As well as "notching up" to increase the efficiency of the steam being used. The locomotive does have a throttle to decide how much steam is delivered. Yet the act of notching up will shorten the valve stroke.

Yeah, old steamer's phrase "Put the Johnson bar in the deep hole"
meant: Full reverse or wide open? Either one, all of it that away...

At this point, I’m glad I’m not old enough to know. Lol. What year is the KW w/ 2 handles? Cat retarder brake, whodda thought. Oldest Semi I drove was a 78 General w 238 2 stroke, 7 spd. Central Transport Red Racer. Blew the turbo, shot flames up and burnt the bottom of overpass, 10 miles from the yard. Drove it in, they rebuilt it. Good as new. They said it had close to 3 million miles on it. Single axle no ps. Spring suspension. Yet it rode smooth and steering wasn’t bad. Much better than the Fords. They were rough on the body.

Was sent that picture earlier, I was a little ahead of that wreck, as I’d met the ambulance about 10 miles up headed that way.
The shop there is where the white trailer with black stripe is his terminal.
They moved the trailers about to land a helicopter, so it wasn’t good.

Had this mad notion of a thought. I am trying to assemble the spindle on my mower. It burned up the bearings and the spindle was destroyed. At any rate the spindle housing takes alot of grease to fill it. I had this mad notion I would take some grease from a bucket, and melt it down in a tin can. Then I would pour the grease into the cold housing. The grease could congeal and I would be all set. Alas todays grease has stabilizers so the grease wont turn into a liquid anymore. When you heat the grease it makes your eyes water and the air becomes harder to breathe. LOL. Plus when you pour it, a strange sludge comes out of the can. Well it was an interesting science experiment I wont try to repeat.

The truck has stopped for the evening. Stopped at this place. A place that has fried chicken and coffee.

I'm concerned The OM has gotten us into fuel island, fried chicken, coffee mode for like two weeks.
