In this buisness, 10+ years is a dinosaur! Why do you think all these companies trade at 500k? Cost of doing buisness with them gets way too high. My main point to the OP, he hasn't thought out any of this. He wants a big shiny Pete, where's he going to lease an old truck on, how is he going to profit with an older truck that'll use more fuel and take a lot more maintenance??? It seems all he knows is he wants a Pete. That's a really bad way to go into this, I speak from my young and dumb personal experience.

If you get the older Pete, and it has the chrome fenders over the drives, always check to see they are not coming loose. Apparently there is only one mounting bracket and if it comes loose, the tires will rip it off the truck.
Don't ask me how I know this! -
If you're going for the look you should get one of these
exhausted379 and Bean Jr. Thank this. -
I have a 2003 Peterbilt 379 with over a million miles.
The last few years I averaged $.11/mile for maintenance.
I last used the truck to run coast to coast. Loads were usually 20,000 lbs going west and 43,000 going east with a van.
I averaged 6.5 mpg running about 62 mph. No idling.spyder7723, poppapump1332 and Bksanyangr9 Thank this. -

Yea I agree, they change trucks like drivers change socks. I compare the newer trucks to the neighbors Honda or Nissan down the road, all smiles talking about the fuel savings, then down in the mouth when they get the repair bill to fix the full blown electronically controlled power plant under the hood. But if it's man made it will break, at some point. And you are correct, the OP wanting a shiny Pete to start out of the gates is questionable, different world from what it was when I signed the papers to buy a used truck in 1987. I wanted a Shiny truck too lol, but I settled for a 1973 model Cabover with no power steering, enjoyed it too

Can't tell these guys that. They think the newer plastic garbage aero trucks is the way to go probably l/p guys who have it embedded in the brain it's all about fuel mileage, but if you can wrench a little and buy a well maintained older hood and pay cash for it you'll put more in your pocket then a newer broke down cause of emissions crap aero.Lone Ranger 13, rabbiporkchop, Bksanyangr9 and 1 other person Thank this.
