I would rather have my own sister work in the cat house as see a buddy drive a Volvo.
I love the fuel millage/maintenance expense crowd. Cutting rates to survive, and barely doing it. I just deadhead to the house and continue to live as usual other than sleeping in and drinking beer. But the hood won't make money in this business they say lmao

2011 with a Cummins CM871 ISX, DPF, no DEF.
Cost of PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE to said EGR/DPF systems... About $400 and 2 hours labor.
Seriously, the majority of the emissions problems are from lack of preventive maint and lack of knowledge by the owner and the service techs. The OEM's all of them, are guilty of not being honest and withholding information on how to keep these systems happy. Owners assume the systems should be "invisible", like they are in a modern car. Some of us remember gasoline Cat convertors clogging on new cars... GM's using pellet style convertors.. EGR valves sticking or the tubes cracking. Diesels are potentially worse than any gas engine but knowledge and attention to the systems can keep them reliable. I don't like the systems any more than the next guy but they are here and its really not that hard to take care of and repair them. Certainly no harder than rebuilding an injection pump on a 3406B.
Now the cost over the previous year for my A/C system is another story completely and it wasn't electronic issues. CRAP insanely overpriced OEM replacement compressors that would fail within 2 weeks, one lasted 5 MILES. -

I think most all the OEM's have these new emissions figured out, and they are reliable for the most part. Even before this stuff came out there would be new trucks that for whatever reason were prone to spending a lot of time in the shop. Nothing there has changed, or will ever change.
The thing I think is funny, is the guys that complain the most about these new trucks are the ones that have absolutely zero first hand experience with them.Last edited: Jun 28, 2016

For the record all emissions items are still installed and fully operational on my truck. The only mechanical mods are a high efficiency aftercooler and a bypass oil filter.Last edited: Jun 28, 2016
