Maybe there are other areas on the tractor to cut the weight, for example: Steertek front axle, alum bell housing, FR series 10 speed rather than 13 or 18, aluminum xmembers, all disc brakes, alum top plate on the 5th, alum air tanks, 22.5’s over 24.5’s, since most places have def at the fuel pumps now put the small def tank on. That’s just a few things to think about. If you have a knowledgeable salesperson they should be able to guide you to a lighter weight by doing more than just downsizing the sleeper.

I’ve pretty much skimmed fat where I wanted to, but have stuck to my guns on a few things like transmission and axles. At this point I’m happy with my spec and will play the fuel game if my load is too heavy.

99 FLD120 with a 2015 Great Dane, thermoking, super seal, stainless rear door frame. Pretty sure I can load up 47,000 lbs in the box with full fuel tanks, me in the truck and my duffel bag but I've yet to see any reefer load over 44,000 and only a few dry loads at 45,500. Lightweight units are great. If I spend $50 a year on scales that would be a lot.

    OhNoTerry and Magoo1968 Thank this.
