The year you turn 66 (full retirement age) you can go drive a truck full time and they wont deduct any money from your SSA check, bring in alot of extra money.

I think the age is 70-72, that you can earn as much as you want without penalty.

Here is a link to the official brochure. I do know some that work but their disabilities make livable wages impossible. Not that SSI makes it much better, it does help some.

Then don't ask questions about committing fraud if you don't like that word. The only reason you would want a cash only job is to avoid loosing your SSI. Sorry you don't like the label, but it is the correct one.

For me I'm 64, next May, 65 plus a couple of months I can collect full SSI and make and income as well without penalty, This year just working 3 moths would mean I will not be eligible for benefit monies till November. So I just not worth continuing the claim, So I cancelled it. I have lost 2 jobs (1) Kemira who openly told me in there parking lot there were letting me go as they wanted another driver, Official reason was breaking a spot mirror on a tractor, my son is still there making good money so I won't mess with that. anyway nothing to do with the subject..Sorry bout that. But next year 65 plus 2 months (what SSI told me in there office) I can collect full benefits and work as well no penalty.

    it's 66 or67.

Benefits Planner: Retirement | Getting Benefits While Working | Social Security Administration
"If you are younger than full retirement age and make more than the yearly earnings limit, your earnings may reduce your benefit amount. (Full retirement age is 66 for people born between 1943 and 1954. Beginning with 1955, two months are added for every birth year until the full retirement age reaches 67 for people born in 1960 or later.)

If you are under full retirement age for the entire year, we deduct $1 from your benefit payments for every $2 you earn above the annual limit. For 2020, that limit is $18,240.

In the year you reach full retirement age, we deduct $1 in benefits for every $3 you earn above a different limit. In 2020, the limit on your earnings is $48,600 but we only count earnings before the month you reach your full retirement age."

yes....BUT, i DO know someone in my family circle so to speak, that IS on SSI..she gets a monthly check, and she's on her own, at an apartment building for such people, as well as total disabled and regular SS people.

if she gets a job (and she has), she HAS to report that to SS and her apartment manager RAISES her rent.

she also loses some of her food allowance for SSI as well.

then, SSI deducts what she earns at her job(s), and pays her the balance of her SSI monthly income.

people on SSDI, can be on that till (i think) 65, maybe 66, then they automatically go onto "regular SS", at the same amount they are getting on SSDI, and they CAN go to work if they want to, and SS cannot say anything.
