That is what my trainer liked. Up early, staggered start time to get you past that big city in non rush hour (if there is one).
and get to the TS when there is parking and showers with no waiting!

Good weather, night driver. Poor weather, day driver.

I think the fact this question was asked is rediculous.... Let alone the answers!
I'm a #### truck driver! I am trained & experienced in driving all hours of the day & night in any weather conditions.... Our job is to transport freight. and that means transport it in a manner to get it to the other end on time. If it means you gotta drive at night, day, rain, snow, sleet, floods, or put tire chains on, so be it. That is what we get paid to do.....
That is a job of a truck driver.... When are some of you going to grow up & become one yourself? -

Once you adjust your body clock for nights, night driving is the way to go. Sure you see more deer and drunks, but you aren't hemmed in on all sides by cars furiously texting away on their cell phones. You actually have room to maneuver. Even with a wrong-way driver on the road, you have room to avoid him. Icy roads, big deal, just drive in the left AND right lane, there's room to do it.
OTR, you don't get a choice. Your daylight is burned by all the important and busy day-timers waiting to tell you to hurry up. You'll get on the road with just barely enough time to drive straight to the destination.
I'm the most senior driver on nights, have had the option to take any day or night schedule for many years and I choose nights. The work, by itself is 10 times easier at night than on days. It's everything but the work that makes working nights harder than days (family, personal appointments, socializing, etc). You have to fully commit to working nights or you will be a daytime zombie trying to stay up all night, with predictably bad results.NDBADLANDS Thanks this. -
My body tells me to sleep sometime between 2am-5am.Will wake on my own by 930am.Love a late afternoon nap sometime between3pm-5pm.Have my best days following my schedule, not theirs.Prefer driving at night unless the weather is bad.Hard to find a parking spot anyway, might as well truck.I am alot more tired under the new rules than I was with the old.Starting to feel like a square peg in a round hole.Never was cut out to follow the puppet crowd.

for some reason there seems to be a lot of solar powered trucks out there tho--i imagine that in the winter that really must suck when the day light hours are minimal
and really sucks if you are headed to alaska in the winter -
