Overtime after 8, expect plenty of it. If they do however send you home early they pay you for the full day. Expect some carport deliveries using a lift gate quite often or inside deliveries, residential etc. all the senior guys don't want them. You might even be in a straight truck... We all hated them at my old terminal because they were so ghetto.
Another benefit is there are majority of holidays we have off. The only two we don't is Veterans Day and Columbus Day. The teamsters have them up to have two for thanksgiving, two for Xmas and two New Years.
YRC is a good place to work. Keep your head clean for 100 days until your in the union. Keep your pay stubs to keep track and speak to your shop steward. Management doesn't care how many days you've worked so never ask them.imtimmy and bosscityboy19 Thank this. -
Thanks I appreciate the reply. I'm a little concerned about lay-offs in the future from what I read on these forums, but I don't know there doing a lot of hiring in my area Chicago. Is it easy to switch from p&d driver to line haul etc... ?

I don't know how it is in your area but I know in some areas some of these drivers sit and sit and sit in certain areas when it's a slow season or time as the senior union members get first dibs on runs. I've heard from some that drivers can come in and wait and wait for a run and not get anything at all only to come back the next day for the same thing to happen. On the positive side, the company pays good, gives good holiday pay and after you've paid your dues and moved up the ladder and have some seniority, things are generally pretty good.

P&D drivers and linedrivers are usually interchangeable. Doesn't really matter though if you are going through a dry spell. Less freight being delivered by P&D usually means less freight brought in by the line guys. You may sit one way or another.
Until you get seniority, you will probably have your turn sitting at home. -
What terminal did you apply for? If its a distribution center, or a hub then if you switch you lose your senority, in a satellite terminal you can switch. I was on layoff from 150, I transfered to 123 to do linehaul and so I can return to work. I lost my senority transferring but I only had 2 months in the union so I didnt lose much. I couldve went up temporary but I knew once I went linehaul i wasnt returning to do P/D... plus I cant stand dealing with customers either. Hwne I was doing p/d at 150 in 10 months I must of walked 15 times if that. A lot of terminals gained work after our last change of operation when they closed down 29 terminals.
THe longest I sat on linehaul at 123 was a day... After 2 months I was able to get a bid as well, Sunday 7am start time, run on rest, normally get thursday night, friday and saturdays off. -
I applied at the Chicago Heights terminal, but they sent me out to wheeling,IL at the Chicago heights terminal I would have been on call but out at wheeling I will have a set schedule so I was told. So I'll see...

I'd take the set schedule over call for sure! Hopefully that's what they have for you. Good luck
judahpraise1 Thanks this. -
Sounds about right for the set schedule... WHen I was at 150 I had an 8am start time everyday. There were days i would drive to work only to drive home. Become friends with your shop steward and they will let you know theres no work before you even leave. But one benefit is that if someone walks into the room 1 minute late they will get sent home and you get their work for the day. That happened to me a few times, some guys get really angry though for a minute. I believe Chicago heights is more for Road drivers... I do know Chicago did pick up some work during the change so you might be ok

Hey Judah, did they hire you as casual or full time?
