Whoa whoa there haus, Air Force right here. Since you'll be retired there's no point in going with a company, they'll keep you moving and by traveling you'll be either at a pilot or bumping docks. Not much fun. The day I seperated I got my own authority and started my own business. It's very easy to do, even a soldier could figure it out haha. You'll get to pick the loads you want and go wherever you want, and take a day off wherever and sightsee. No one to answer to everyday. And seriously this work isn't hard, we've writen harder paperwork in the military than it is to strap down a load.
Check out the hotshot portion of the forum. Not as much hassle as with the bigger trucks and you'll be smaller so you can unhook and go travel around. It's also cheaper to start and not as much to maintain.

Wheew.....what a life you've led so far! With that kind of retirement you can buy one of those fancy Lonestar's and a flatbed and go forth an conquer! Happy for you!

Saying I am not a good trucker is like saying the Sun is hot.

And I have always believed that Hard work is something best left up to the experts.

Hi major, 1st, that is a railroad container that is shown. The box comes off the chassis, and they double stack it on a flatcar, or on a ship. 2nd, 100% no-touch is usually a ploy to get you to join up. While some say they never touch the freight, in my 35 years, it rarely happened. Aside from tarping, flatbed and tanker aren't really a lot of exercise. Food service is really where the work comes in, as many places may not have docks, and I've done more than my share of "fingerprinting" a load. And like others have said, usually in food service, you get paid by the hour to unload, but van and reefer stuff, you may or may not get paid. Good luck, and thanks for the service.

Werner dedicated Dollar General accounts. you will get all the exercise (and the tightest backing situations you ever seen in your life) you need. 100% driver unload. sounds right up your alley.

(*snicker snicker, laugh laugh, cough cough*) :D
