I always see the FedEx, Saia, ODFL, etc doubles passing me by on the downhills, with their cranks swinging in the breeze.

What's convenient about that is that when we're parked next to the competition's trailer, their crank is easy access right there to take off and use on our trailer without going around to the other side lol.

GOAL just dumb I may be a rookie but if I am not 110% sure I get out and look why do we need to type it, in truck stops ur holding other drivers up if u gotta get out and look so why do we need to Waste more of there time while we type goal???? It's just common sense really why would u keep backing without checking if not 100% sure your good, just saying

I seen so new rule on backing went out last week but it didn't explain it and overturns what was that ur fired if it happens??

If I'm backing up back to back with another trailer and I don't want to bump them, I get out and look then measure the steps from the back of their trailer to the back of mine, then go up to my door steps and step off the same amount of steps minus a few inches and put my flashlight on the ground then back up to where the step area I looked at matches up with the flashlight then go back and confirm, it's right on about 4 inches of daylight.
I'm still not sending in any GOAL messages! Ain't gonna do it. I got a fleet message today stating that backing crashes are the #1 crash they are having still. GOAL messages seem to not be working....

Goal for me is just another aspect of driving. Typing out goal each time I backup sucks, yea. But I could give a cr@p if im holding up 1000 trucks in a truck stop, or a shipper, etc. If I need to get out and look, I do, I mean it is 'my' driving record, my ### on the line if I hit something.
screw what other drivers think, make them wait.

Me personally, I get pissed off when I keep being informed that our fleet is the worst this week, we had 3 backing crashes, or this message.. IF you have a backing innocent yer fired, we have to many backing crashes that could have been avoided if the driver got out and looked. So I've never hit anything, and if I scrap, bump, or whatever.. im fired because your incompetent drivers reflect on my driving, I think not..
if that driver is so bad at his/her job and hit something, well then maybe you(swift) should spend more time training drivers, rather than push them out of yer puppy mill so #### fast. In fact I recall my mentor and I sitting down at the end of my 240hrs and filling out my backing sheet, guessing on dates..etc.. /sad

So that being said. I get creative in my goal messages, if they want me to send them a daamn txt message, fine.. some of my classics are..

This backing is brought to you by the letters G O A and L
    (Spanish version ) Gooooaaaaalllllll
This msg is to inform upper management that driver #xyz has gotten out of his truck, using a 3pt stance, looked thoroughly around the trailer and is now ready to begin his approach into the doc.
    ..and my favorite..
GOAL _ but I did not like what saw back there so im going to try and park in a different spot, will goal you later.

Its all corporate bs. Just wait till rearend accidents are on the rise, then at every red light, or pulling out of a doc, etc we will have to send in a 'Forward' message..

Just heard from 2 sources Walmart told their drivers to leave their cell phones at home.
