The point, I think, is always the bottom line. Are you what to buy a truck? If you are then a lease purchase deal will get you a truck that you paid way to much for and have worn it out before it is yours. I would never recommend doing that. At Hirschbach, they had the system worked out. The lease drivers worked harder and got the loads there on time. It made them feel like they are business partners. Your not, you just work there but it makes you think you are. I made $250 a week more there then at K&B. But I have to pay both sides of the Social Security. 1480 X 7.5%=
$111. That makes the real money difference $139 a week. But no benefits. So which is better. Neither. They both fired me. I believe you will find that even the best companies out there have it worked out to the same thing. If you work for someone else you make less then you would by yourself, but you will have the support of the company right up until they fire you.
And Debt is not a bad thing in times of rapid inflation. Which is coming thanks to the "lets buy some votes crowd" in Washington DC.
What's the point of leasing?

I guess in my opinion leasing gives you a little more insight to the ultimate step of being an O/O. No forced dispatch is nice in a way. Negative is if you lease through a company you cant take it to another carrier unless you do a FML through a dealer.
One thing that is true for sure. People who say its a scam or not possible are wrong. Plenty of guys do it with success. One way to surely fail a lease is to have 3 kids and a stay at home wife. Trucks, boats, trains, or any thing with moving parts break. So you need to be prepared for that. Single guy with minimal expenses in life can easily complete a lease for sure but wont happen with 4k in monthky overhead like bills and baby formula.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
The Man has figured out a way to keep middle class Americans middle class. Keep them on the hamster wheel, keep them living on paycheck to paycheck. Might as well accept that and become a lease operator, it's a gamble, every once in a while somebody wins, could it be you??

Leasing youre nothing more then a glorified company driver.Your trk still gets neutered.I don't think you can pick the trk you want. How many of you take it for a drive to see how it runs? You can't pick your own loads can you?How about what you get paid per mile, would you consider that acceptable?Drivers really should get a feel of the industry and their company before making such a gamble.

I was trying to point out that the difference is right around $100 per week between the two. However, you have to do a lot more work on your taxes as you file 4 times a year and there could be weeks where you end up owing money. Something goes wrong in a Company truck, you don't get stuck with the repair bill. With a Lease Purchase you can find yourself in the hole.

BUT remember if you pick the right lease company and with a new truck when done its yours so.... Certainly not a horrible move if you want to be an O/O and its a way to get foot in door.

While Patty may have failed to push the space bar, she has earned my respect over the years I have talked to over the phone as well as online here.
