What's up with all the trucks idling?

Everywhere that I go I see trucks idling. Not one or two but probably the majority of them. Idling for hours and hours maybe days even. Hot weather cold weather warm weather cool weather comfortable weather whatever, doesn't matter still idling.

It's not good on the newer engines to idle at all, and really it's not good for the older engines either. And with the price of fuel you would just think you would see less of it.

I can understand if there's a company driver that does not have an APU, but I see plenty of owner-operators idling.

It is just one of those things that does not seem to make a lot of sense. But I see it everywhere all the time.

I let my truck idle to keep my air pressure built up .. because I have a air powered dremel I use to polish my belt buckle when I'am parked

More and more trucks have opti idle which fires up the main engine for about 2 hours at a time.

Back in the old days when I was still driving, it was more of a status symbol. I'd search out truck stops and watch what trucks had been idling the longest, then I'd park next to them just to idle longer. I wasn't no broke joke. I can afford to idle longer.

Freight rates are why I went broke. Can't make a living at 3$ a mile. Maybe I'll hook up with a Mega so I can post about how bad they are.

Because they all have air dryers that pop off every 2 mins and each one idles to drown out the noise from the one next to them

AD/9 and AD/IS dryers have been the bane of my existence for the last 15yrs. They work, never find anything but air in the reservoirs, I’ll give them that. But, I’ve already had enough of the desiccant cartridge, purge valve and heater kit nightmare. Now just seeing one I could beat the thing off the frame with a sledge hammer.

I idle at night when conditions are right. I have an espar. However, when the temp goes into the single digits over night, I will start my truck before I goto bed.

Why does it bother you so much that others idle THEIR trucks? It's been going on long before you started driving, nothing new there. Not idling is a new thing.
