I would think that the fact Missouri is converting some rest areas to minimal service facilities with chemical toilets would be an indication they're keeping them open and free at reduced costs.

I have no link but another trucker told me the government wants us to pay for parking in rest areas. I wouldn't doubt it, if the TA can get away with it..

First, a TA truck stop is private property, and they have every right to generate revenue from that property. Second, you "heard from another trucker" is nothing more than rumor.

No $#!T, I pulled into a rest area briefly and there where a lot of handicap spots. I don't know who uses em but that's a waste of pavement IMO and an opertunity for some cop to write a ticket to a driver that couldn't find anywhere else to park

Wait till a third party approaches some of the large truck stops and shows them how if they "manage" their parking they will make x amount of money. I worked for a major parking management company for a few years and the stuff I saw them come up with to make money for themselves and others was pretty incredible.

I believe it's a corporation with stock holders. But if you want to take their side then go ahead, what happens when there are no spots available like a football stadium. And while it might be a 'rumor' right now it will probably be a reality in the future.

I hate to burst your bubble, but "no spots" is a regular occurrence at 10PM in a lot of places... today. Try finding a spot at a truckstop in Tulsa any night after 5PM! If shelling out about $10 (that's deductible as an expense even if you're a company driver) once or twice a year is a problem you can't afford, you really need to get yourself a gig that nets more than a penny a mile.
