There's one going into a GM plant that even with the tandems all the way forward amd using all the space with the tractor you get all 4 tires up on the curb.

We were getting one of those with 70’ rgn’s at 16’ wide. We found our own way after the first trip. Just turned a few blocks earlier and made two regular left hand turns.

I try to plan my routes avoiding the Michigan lefts as much as possible. Mainly because it wastes time. The trick is often taking almost 2 lanes, but still have the rear of the trailer in the correct lane, not blocking traffic, when you inevitably get stuck waiting for traffic to clear. The real screw up is the single lane turn arounds over the freeways. A lot of Trucks get hung up. It’s easy to do. Have to swing real wide. Louisiana has some goofy u turn practices. They swing in tight, instead of a do se do. Took some getting used to, almost caused a wreck in my car the first time. Arkansas takes the cake, with their 2 way cross crossing service roads and ramps.

Like on i96 at Middle Belt in Livonia, there are two places to turn to go West bound but the first one is too narrow for an inexperienced driver, they always get their trucks stuck there. Just by going down to the light, it is a WIDE bridge and it allows any truck to make the turn to go west bound. The same goes for other cross overs on 96, MDOT had a chance to fix this problem when they rebuilt the freeway 10 years go but ignored the pleas to do it right.

Heck, just putting up a sign letting trucks know there is a better option a block up would help.

Don't forget Minnesota with their "turn right at the T intersection, go 1/4 mile, and then turn left to make a U-turn across two lanes of oncoming traffic to head the way you wanted to go in the first place" method of handling rural highway intersections.

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.

I miss driving my stretched t600... until i run into tight docks with no pull up space and those u-turn turn arounds, then my baby wheelbase (a smidge over daycab length) makes me extremely happy
