Me too, which is why I brought it up. There was another thread on the topic recently. Someone else being the lighthouse for a change. Enforcement on the north side of ATL has been hotter and heavier than usual, but seem mostly focusing on landscapers and medium duty construction rigs. I heard a rumor those types are usually easy picking for authority/insurance/CDL violations.

That's the difference between a brand name part, and a no-name China part from Truck Pro or the like. The cheaper part will get the job done but will wear down faster, but we're still talking about years not days. The metal clamps on the cheap ones aren't as good either. I already had to hammer one of mine down to tighten it up and it's not even a couple years old.

I understand your limitations with the company truck. It makes me cringe reading the hours of delay you dealt with to get that settled. Had I seen the same failure, I would have clamped the gladhand on with vice grips and gone straight to the nearest truck parts dealer for a replacement and installed it in the parking lot.

In fact I helped out an old timer I see now and then, that goes by "Cigar", at the Eskimo freezer in Gainesville one day that had the exact same problem. His had broke off while making a tight u-turn inside Suzanna's Kitchen, his last stop 30 mi away. I seen him messing with it because his vice grips were worn out too LOL. For some crazy reason I had a spare bulkhead fitting in my toolbag and just gave it to him. We swapped it out while we were getting our loads.

Left last night under strong rain... but the rain diminished as I kept going west and south....
Now it's sunny here in TN... Do you know where I am....? Maybe you do... but don't say it yet...

Yeah... Mr. @RedForeman ... I knew you would say what you said about grabbing your tools and fixing it yourself... Sometimes I think about doing just that but it's not my equipment... and if I mess it up.... Ooooohhhh.... I will hear from Mr. Maintenance... :biggrin_25516:  He doesn't want us to do practically anything on the equipment... and much less without his authorization... He and I already had some unpleasant exchange on the phone the other day for another reason... but I'll not get into details... :biggrin_25512:
Good thing I was taking my 34 at FJ when this all happened... so I didn't waste any time... only bad thing is that I couldn't sleep in the afternoon and started driving again that night... :biggrin_2552:

Hey... are these the kind of vice grips you have...?

And BTW Mr. @RedForeman ... the thing started leaking air that I could hear right after the repair guy installed it... He kept saying... "ohhhh... that's not much.... you have to get your ear close to it to hear..." But I could see the air pressure drop tremendously when I released the brake, could hear it from the red valve and also could see the drop when I stepped on the brake.. I knew that would not pass a DOT inspection....
I poured some soapy water on the "new" part to find where leakage was but couldn't see any bubbles... :biggrin_25513:
Hmmm... that was a puzzle for me... So.. after a while trying to find the leakage... with no success, I let the repair guy go... I was EXHAUSTED... and still had to drive all night....
It was only later that I investigated that thing a little more thoroughly that I found where the problem was...
See the old part in this picture.... it has that metal covering the round edge... I am saving both to give them to Mr. Maintenance... he also wants to see...

That’s who the law around these parts seem to pop more than much of anybody else, the landscape and hotshot trucks.

That usually gets them something to do.
