Pompeii is decent; we used to import an oil from Italy when my wife's dad was still alive. Here's one we bought once, but at $190 USD a gallon, it's kind of like fine wine...use it for special occasions.

Throw in a little vinegar, cider and half a Walla Walla sweet and you got it.

The stuff @homeskillet is talking about is 'Caramel Apples' from mostly vendors at 'fairs' or 'carnivals.' They are NOT caramelized, it's an apple on a stick, dipped in goopy caramel, and then 'chilled' a bit so the caramel (which was hot to start when they dip it) doesn't run off.

I believe you can actually buy them at some upper echelon grocery stores; I know the Krogers here in Ohio have them.

Onions? I just simmer in Olive oil in skillet until brown...seasoned of course, and ... put on anything, just eat alone some times.

What we DON'T grow, we buy from the Amish. Just saw a documentary last week, how some stores actually 'shine' their watermelons, and inject them with something or other. Sad. It was in New York or something, but still. Sad.

Me? Yes.. lightly in olive oil only. Put in a big tupperware in fridge and ready to go on the ready. We used to ziploc portions when we were OTR.

Another trick: Alfalafa sprouts...put rice in the ziploc to keep them fresh on the road. We actually LOVE them, but they are kinda a 'treat.'

Yes'm, we have candied AND caramel apples here. Next time you go into a WalMart, in the fruit and vegeteble section, bet you can find a few pre packaged ones. Kroger has them fresh, but not sure what states they are in.
