I know I'm just another string of text on the pages. But I think you need to get down to your dad sooner rather than later. You will have regrets with any decision about this. But working through the mental stuff from delaying it will be more difficult to work through than working through the consequences of getting down there to see and experience him now.
I will not be rude enough to tell you "Girl park that truck in LA and get your self down there now". But that is what I'm thinking.062, Rocks, MagnumaMoose and 3 others Thank this. -
I feel for you, but all I can really say is do what you feel you need to do. If you have to swap companies when you come back, so be it, but they may work with you too, since you have been a good driver, it is not like they are growing on trees. I also would't stress over learning an auto in winter, I think most of not all can be run in manual mode, and just run it in manual till you are comfortable with it and understand it's quirks, if you have to go that route.
It seems like you and your company is a pretty god fit for each other, which is not always easy to find.
Anyway prayers for your dad and best wishes what ever you do.
It does sound like he has had a good long life to look back on.062, MagnumaMoose and Rocks Thank this. -
Yeah... I told one of my bosses in the company last week that I may not go back till March.... and if they have an opening when I come back... and he said, "Don't worry, even if we don't have an opening, we will make one..."
Yeah.. that's nice... but also, my company has lost several drivers recently... I don't know why.... and they are having a hard time finding new drivers... I was told they have only 24 trucks with drivers right now... if that drops too much, there may not be a company when I come back...MagnumaMoose and dwells40 Thank this. -
And about the automatic truck... the operations manager showed me the truck he would like to put me in.... It has 12 manual gears.... plus so many new buttons... and switches....
MagnumaMoose Thanks this. -

Well I hope they are there when you get back, I hate to see good small companies go under. I bet they will be, but may have to down size. When I ran a few other trucks and had drivers. I generally had a driver I knew to be what I wanted before I bought the truck that would be staying in, and they had some input in it.
I had one driver that had a bad shoulder, and while he could handle a standard fine, an auto shift was better for him. He had been in his KW for over 3 years and I knew of an oo thatwas retiring with a near new freightliner with an autoshift. When he came home, it just happened the oo was home too, so I loaded him up and we went to look at it. After loking at it he ask why I wanted it, I told him I thought he might like to upgrade to a newer truck. lol He ask how I figured stepping up to that freightshaker was an upgrade. lo,l
Just following your posts, you are steady picking up and delivering, miles clicking by and NO dram nor whining like many wanna be drivers, I have no doubt, your small company will try and keep you, it is not every driver that makes a company money day in and day out and even fewer that don't have all kinds of issues. Any small company knows what it has and will try to keep the ones they need to stay alive in this business to a certain extent.dwells40, Rocks and MagnumaMoose Thank this.
